Anthropic·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Coding interview at Anthropic for a software engineer role. You get a problem, you design a solution in Python, and they want the full package: approach, data structures, clean code, tests, complexity analysis. Pretty thorough for a single round.
  • Design and implement a Python solution to a given problem, covering your approach, data structure choices, trade-offs, clean modular code, unit tests, and time/space complexity analysis.

“They really did want all of it.”

Interviewed for a software engineering role at Anthropic and got a coding question around basic banking operations. Pretty straightforward on the surface but there's more to think about than it first seems.
  • Implement a create account function and a deposit function for a simple banking system.

“Seemed easy at first and that's probably where I tripped up a little.”

Anthropic·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
PM interview at Anthropic with a live exercise where you brainstorm a product idea using Claude or another AI tool, and they're basically watching how you prompt and whether you can tell when the output is garbage.
  • Use an AI tool to brainstorm a new product idea and walk through your process live.

“This was weirder than I expected.”

Anthropic·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Apr 2026
Interviewed for a software engineering role at Anthropic and got a system design question about building an inference API. Pretty focused session, just the one problem as far as I can tell.
  • Design an inference API.

“This is a meaty one for an AI company and I probably underestimated how deep they'd want to go.”

Interviewed for a SWE role at Anthropic. Just the one question from what was shared, a pretty standard motivation question but one that actually takes some thought given what Anthropic does.
  • Why do you want to work at Anthropic?

“I had an answer ready but saying it out loud felt a bit hollow.”

Apr 2026
Interviewed for a PM role at Anthropic. Just the one question I can remember clearly, which was about keeping up with AI research and trends.
  • How do you stay current with the latest developments in AI?

“Thought I had a decent answer but it came out pretty scattered.”

Anthropic·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Culture round at Anthropic for a software engineer role. Three questions, all behavioral, nothing technical. Pretty standard values-based stuff but the middle question tripped me up more than I expected.
  • Why do you want to work at Anthropic specifically?
  • Tell me about a time you stood by a value or principle even when it was inconvenient or unpopular.
  • Describe someone you respect but fundamentally disagree with on something important.

“I had a whole answer prepped and it still felt a little hollow coming out.”

Anthropic·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Apr 2026
Anthropic software engineer interview that opens with a slide-based project deep dive and then pivots into a full behavioral loop. The project presentation portion felt almost like a system design review in disguise, which I wasn't totally expecting.
  • Present a recent project using slides. Cover the problem, constraints, your role and key decisions, architecture, how you measured success, the results, and trade-offs you made.
  • What was the toughest technical or organizational challenge on that project, and walk me through how you resolved it?
  • Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a stakeholder. How did you get everyone on the same page?
  • Describe a mistake you made on a project. What did you change as a result?
  • Give an example of how you raised the bar on your team or helped someone else grow.

“This was the centerpiece of the whole thing and it ate up way more time than I budgeted for.”

Anthropic·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Apr 2026
Short Anthropic SWE screen with one question that sounds simple but kind of puts you on the spot about how you think.
  • When making decisions, do you prioritize your personal values or what's most profitable for the company?

“This is the kind of question where you second-guess yourself mid-answer.”

Anthropic·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Behavioral round at Anthropic for a SWE role. Just the one question from what I can tell, pretty standard team dynamics territory.
  • Describe a situation where you were unhappy with your team and considered moving to a different one.

“I had a real story for this but I fumbled the delivery.”
