Bank of America·Software Engineer·Executive / Final Round

Sep 2026
Went through a multi-stage process at a professional services firm, sailed through the first two rounds with positive feedback, then hit a slightly nerve-wracking final coffee chat with the hiring manager and a Senior Director. No offer on the spot, which the recruiter had floated as the best case, so now I'm just sitting here refreshing my inbox and second-guessing everything.
  • Are you genuinely committed to relocating for this role, given that you currently live outside the city?

“This came up more than once across the process, which tells you how much it was weighing on them.”

Bank of America·AI Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Sep 2026
Ran a newly designed AI Engineer interview this week and came away genuinely shaken by how far ahead the candidates were operating. Built a PR-review exercise around catching bugs in agent-generated code, and two of the three candidates basically told me the whole premise was outdated.
  • How would you approach quality assurance in a safety-critical system where serious bugs are completely unacceptable, if you're not reading the code you generate?
  • Walk us through how you'd review a high-risk, agent-generated pull request that touches critical business logic, and how you'd drive any fixes you find.
  • What does your current workflow look like for managing code quality when you're generating most or all of the code with AI tools?

“I asked this expecting to catch someone out, and the answer I got was something like 'if I were doing healthcare or aerospace work I'd probably look closely at code review, maybe even write the checks myself.' My first reaction was that this was a non-answer from someone used to shipping PoCs.”

Interviewed at a top hedge fund, felt good about the project and research walkthrough, then completely fell apart on two probability questions I'd done before. The interviewer had to basically solve them with me. Still stings.
  • Solve a probability problem presented on the spot during the interview.

“I knew this stuff.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Executive / Final Round

Aug 2026
Final round at a professional services firm for what seemed like a nearly done deal. I was the only candidate brought to the final stage, got positive signals throughout, and then the hiring manager and a Senior Director didn't make an offer on the spot like the recruiter had hinted they might. Now I'm just waiting and second-guessing everything.
  • Are you genuinely planning to relocate to be closer to the office, given the commute distance involved?

“This came up more than once across the process, which tells you how much it was weighing on them.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Executive / Final Round

Aug 2026
Final round in-person interview for a corporate MBA role that went completely off the rails when the interviewer admitted mid-conversation that they had pulled up the wrong candidate and spent ten minutes telling me I wasn't a good fit for a job I wasn't even applying for.
  • Who are you and what brings you here today?

“The interviewer literally opened by saying they hadn't looked at my resume.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Executive / Final Round

Aug 2026
Final round interview for a junior data analyst role at a large corporation, involving a panel with a recruiter, team lead, and their manager. The interview mixed general conversation, an English language portion, and a live Excel skills test. Got a call back 10-15 minutes later saying they liked me, which I'm still not sure how to read.
  • Live Excel practical test: complete a series of tasks using Excel functions, with the panel observing your process and problem-solving approach.
  • General background and motivations: standard conversational portion covering your experience, interest in the role, and fit with the team.

“I had practiced a lot coming in because I knew this was on the table.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Recruiter / HR Screen

First ever interview at a big firm, done online, and it went about as badly as a first interview can go without the call actually dropping. Laptop died right before the session, joined on mobile with a crooked camera angle, spent five minutes fixing it while the interviewers watched, then completely froze on the opening question. They rescheduled out of kindness but the whole thing was a mess.
  • Tell us about yourself, what you've worked on previously, and where you see yourself in the future.

“I had literally rehearsed this exact question the same morning.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Take-home Assignment

Jul 2026
Four rounds deep into an entry-level AIML Engineer role at a local enterprise data security company, and I'm genuinely considering walking away. The process started reasonable enough but ballooned into a 6-hour panel that ran two hours over, a week of silence, and then a take-home assignment that screams AI-generated instructions asking for production-grade C++ concurrency work from an entry-level candidate.
  • Walk through common data structures and explain when you'd choose one over another.
  • Explain low-level memory concepts in C++, specifically around pointers.
  • On a whiteboard, solve a data structures problem presented by each of three different managers sequentially.
  • Design an internal tool from scratch by talking through your approach and architecture decisions.
  • Demonstrate your depth of knowledge in AI and machine learning concepts.
  • Build a high-performance C++ analysis engine that handles millions of requests with concurrency controls, timestamp bucketing, 180-day data retention, and sub-quadratic query time, all within a one-hour take-home window.

“This came up across multiple rounds with different managers, which got repetitive fast.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Online Assessment (OA)

Jul 2026
Took a Criteria cognitive assessment for a role I felt genuinely qualified for, got rejected because I didn't meet the minimum threshold, and now I'm questioning everything. The recruiter told me to just guess if I don't know the answer, which honestly raised more questions than it answered.
  • Math and numerical reasoning problems requiring calculation under time pressure.
  • Pattern recognition questions as part of a timed cognitive aptitude assessment.

“I finished 44 of 50 questions and felt pretty good about most of them.”

Bank of America·Software Engineer·Recruiter / HR Screen

Jul 2026
Applied for a junior tax accountant role and got cut off 15 minutes into the HR screen because the recruiter said my accent wasn't American enough. The job posting didn't even describe the role as client-facing, so the whole thing felt like a bait-and-switch.
  • Can you walk me through your professional background?

“I gave what I thought was a solid answer.”
