Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jun 2026
Meta system design round for a SWE role. Single question, pretty open-ended, not a lot of scaffolding given.
  • Design a food delivery platform similar to Uber Eats.

“Big question with a lot of surface area.”

Meta data engineer interview with a heavy focus on product analytics, which I wasn't fully expecting for a DE role. The whole thing revolved around one big multi-part case study and it covered a lot of ground fast.
  • Pick any product or feature and define 4 to 6 success metrics you would use to evaluate it.
  • If your primary metric suddenly drops, walk through how you would investigate the root cause step by step.
  • Identify one leading metric that predicts your primary outcome and explain why it works as a leading indicator.
  • What business questions would stakeholders ask about this product's performance, and how would you answer each one analytically?
  • Propose meaningful user segments to break down your metrics and explain what each segment could reveal.

“I picked something familiar and rattled off metrics pretty quickly, but I think I leaned too hard on engagement numbers and forgot to anchor one metric to revenue or retention.”

Meta DS interview with a stats-heavy scenario around feed ranking experiments. One question but it had enough layers to keep me busy for a while.
  • You have three feed-ranking experiments, all with negative engagement effects and known 95% confidence intervals: Treatment A at -5 (CI: -7.5 to -2.5), Treatment B at -15 (CI: -17 to -13), Treatment C at -12 (CI: -28 to -4). Interpret each interval and decide which, if any, you'd launch.

“The twist is that all three are negative, so the instinct is to just say 'none of them' and move on.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
PM interview at Meta, one question about Facebook Marketplace goals. Pretty open-ended, they wanted both near-term and longer-horizon thinking.
  • What are your goals for Facebook Marketplace, both short-term and long-term?

“I fumbled the structure a bit at first.”

Meta SWE coding round with two questions, both algorithmic. Nothing behavioral, just pure problem solving under the clock. Felt like a pretty standard technical screen but the second question had some tricky edge cases worth thinking through.
  • Given a string, can you determine whether removing at most one character makes it a palindrome?
  • Given a binary tree, return its vertical order traversal, where nodes in the same column are listed top to bottom, and ties in row and column follow left-to-right BFS order.

“Two-pointer from both ends, and when you hit a mismatch you try skipping one character from either side and check if the remainder is a palindrome.”

Meta·Machine Learning Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Meta for an MLE role, focused entirely on a single deep-dive into a risky project. One question, but they really dug into it.
  • Tell me about the riskiest project you've worked on. Walk through why it was risky, what the specific risks were and how you handled them, what decisions you personally owned, what happened in the end, and how you'd approach something similar today.

“This question has a lot of parts and I underestimated how much structure it needed.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
PM interview at Meta with a classic public sector product question. Nothing too wild but it requires you to actually think through a real-world service with a lot of constraints and user frustration baked in.
  • You're a PM at the DMV. What improvements would you make to their services?

“I spent too long ranting about wait times before realizing I hadn't actually segmented the user base at all.”

Meta coding screen, just one problem about k-palindromes. Short session, not much to say beyond the problem itself.
  • Given a string, determine whether it can be made into a palindrome by removing at most K characters.

“Classic edit-distance variant but I kept second-guessing whether to go DP straight away or try the two-pointer shortcut first.”

Meta·Machine Learning Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Interviewed at Meta for an ML engineer role and got hit with a product design question about YouTube advertising. Felt a bit sideways for an ML interview but apparently this kind of cross-domain system design stuff is fair game there.
  • How would you design the advertising system for a video platform like YouTube?

“Wasn't expecting a product-slash-system design hybrid for an ML role.”

ML system design round at Meta for an MLE role. One question, pretty open-ended, the kind where you can go in a dozen directions and second-guess yourself the whole time.
  • Design an ML system that recommends places to a user in a maps or local-discovery product.

“The scope is huge and that's kind of the problem.”
