Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Meta product sense question, just the one about Facebook Events. Not much context around the interview itself so hard to say how it went.
  • How would you improve Facebook Events?

“Classic Meta product sense territory.”

Interviewed for an ML Engineer role at Meta and got a coding problem involving linked list deep copy with random pointers. Pretty standard algorithms territory but the random pointer wrinkle trips people up if you haven't seen it before.
  • Given a linked list where each node has both a next pointer and a random pointer (which can point to any node or null), produce a deep copy of the entire list such that all next and random pointer relationships are preserved using only the new nodes.

“The next pointer part is trivial.”

PM interview at Meta, one question about setting goals and metrics for an internal product. Pretty focused session, no fluff.
  • How would you define success metrics and set goals for Facebook Work Chat?

“I started with engagement metrics and the interviewer just kind of waited, like there was more to say.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Meta for a Data Engineer role. Pretty much all situational questions about ownership, cross-team coordination, and conflict resolution. Nothing technical, which surprised me a bit.
  • Tell me about a time you built a data initiative from scratch. What did that process look like?
  • When you had competing priorities or conflicting requests coming from different directions, how did you decide what to work on and how did you keep everyone aligned?
  • Walk me through a specific conflict you had with another team. What were your options, what did you choose, and what happened?
  • What are you looking for in your next role and what do you plan to do once you're in it?

“This was the opener and I felt pretty good about it.”

Meta PM interview, product analytics question centered on Messenger. Just one question but it was a meaty one that required structured thinking under pressure.
  • You're the PM for Messenger and you notice a significant drop in DAU. How do you investigate the cause?

“I jumped straight into segmentation before even clarifying what 'significant' meant, which I think was a mistake in hindsight.”

Meta DS interview, product analytics focus. The whole thing was basically one big open-ended case about Stories across Facebook and Instagram, and they wanted a real measurement plan, not just vibes.
  • Facebook Stories and Instagram Stories both exist. Leadership wants to know which one to invest in more heavily. How do you define primary, diagnostic, and guardrail metrics for Stories, and how do you structure a measurement plan that avoids being misled by cannibalization?
  • Given that Facebook and Instagram share a large portion of their user base, how would you actually compare Stories performance across the two apps while accounting for different user intent and baseline behavior?
  • What causal identification strategy would you use to measure the true impact of investing in Stories, and what are the main biases or confounders you'd need to worry about?
  • Walk through your recommendation given a few specific outcome scenarios: engagement is up but revenue is down, or creator supply grows but user retention stays flat. What do you actually decide?

“This is the kind of question where you think you know where to start and then realize five minutes in that you've already painted yourself into a corner.”

Meta DS interview with a SQL-heavy product analytics question. Two parts, both tied to the same schema, which was a nice change from the usual disconnected prompts. Nothing too wild but the second part had more depth than I expected.
  • Given a Surveys table and a Users table, write SQL to calculate the overall response rate to the post-notification survey.
  • Using SQL, determine whether users who registered more recently tend to rate notification surveys higher compared to users who have been around longer.

“Seemed straightforward at first.”

Meta product sense question, just the one. Someone asked me to design an Olympics product as if Zuckerberg himself was the client, which is a weird framing that threw me a little.
  • If Mark Zuckerberg asked you to build a product for the Olympics, what would you create?

“The Zuckerberg angle is just flavor but it did mess with my head a bit.”

Meta SWE coding round, one question the whole time. Pretty standard algorithmic problem but the O(1) space constraint is where they actually want to see if you know what you're doing.
  • Given a string, determine whether you can make it a palindrome by removing at most one character. Return true or false.

“I jumped straight to the two-pointer approach which felt right, but I fumbled on the part where the pointers mismatch.”

Meta coding screen for a software engineer role, one problem the whole time. Sliding window stuff, which I thought I knew cold until I actually had to code it under pressure.
  • Given a year represented as an array of 'H' (Holiday) and 'W' (Workday) characters, and an integer representing the number of PTO days available, find the longest contiguous stretch of days you can take off. Each 'W' day in the window costs one PTO day; 'H' days are free.

“Sliding window with a counter for W's inside the window.”
