Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Went through a product sense round at Meta for a PM role. Just the one question but it took up most of the time.
  • How do you prioritize competing features?

“Classic question but I still fumbled the structure a bit.”

Meta·Technical Program Manager·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Meta TPM interview with a system design question about building an airline booking platform. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Design an airline booking system.

“I jumped straight into the database schema and the interviewer had to nudge me back toward requirements.”

PM interview at Meta, product metrics question for a video conferencing app. Pretty standard stuff but the follow-up about rationale tripped me up a bit.
  • You're a PM for a video conferencing app. What success metrics would you define for it? Start by explaining why this product exists.

“The rationale-first framing is what gets people.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Interviewed at Meta for a product role and got hit with a classic product sense question about Facebook reactions. Short and focused, probably a screen of some kind.
  • How would you optimize the use of Facebook reactions?

“I went straight to engagement metrics and started talking about surfacing reactions more prominently in the feed algorithm.”

Meta·Machine Learning Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Jun 2026
Meta MLE interview with a hiring manager that was basically one big open-ended research question. The whole session was just iterating on one problem while the HM picked apart every idea I floated.
  • Meta trains coding agents on private code repositories. How would you prevent these agents from reproducing code from those private repos in their outputs, similar to a copyright protection problem?

“I came in with a few ideas and felt okay about the first two or three.”

Meta·Machine Learning Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Interviewed at Meta for what seemed like a machine learning or data science adjacent role. One question, pretty fundamental, but I still managed to fumble parts of it.
  • Can you explain how gradient descent works?

“I knew this cold, or thought I did.”

Meta SWE coding round, one algorithmic problem about counting subarrays with alternating parity. Pretty focused session, just the one question but it had some depth to it once you started thinking about edge cases.
  • Given an integer array, count all contiguous subarrays where adjacent elements strictly alternate between even and odd numbers.

“The example they give is [1,2,3,7,8,9] where you get 12 total subarrays.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Meta SWE coding round with a substring problem that looks trivial until you actually read the edge cases carefully. Came away feeling okay about it but not totally confident.
  • Given a lowercase string, find the shortest substring where all characters are distinct. If there are ties on length, return the leftmost one. The answer length is capped at 3, so you only need to check lengths 1, 2, and 3.

“My first instinct was to reach for a sliding window and I started coding that up before realizing the cap at length 3 makes this way simpler.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Meta phone screen for a SWE role, two problems back to back. The second one was this prefix-sum subarray count question which sounds easy until you've been burned by the sliding-window trap before.
  • Given an integer array and a target value k, return the count of contiguous subarrays whose sum equals k. The array may contain negative numbers.

“The negative values thing is what kills people.”

Meta Research Engineer coding round, got a tree problem that looks simple until you actually sit down and think about it under pressure.
  • Given the root of a binary tree where each node holds a single digit, every path from root to leaf forms a number. Write a function to return the sum of all such numbers.

“I knew it was a DFS problem pretty quickly but fumbled the accumulation logic at first.”
