Palantir·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Phone screen for a software engineer role at Palantir, 60 minutes split between resume walkthrough and what I assume was more technical stuff after the first 15.
  • Why do you want to work at Palantir?

“Knew this was coming and still fumbled it a bit.”

Apr 2026
Palantir software engineer coding round, 40 minutes to implement a session manager class from scratch. The problem was more involved than it sounds and you had to write your own test cases too.
  • Implement a session manager class with two methods: start_session(session_id) and get_allocation(). Sessions must be distributed across a fixed set of servers such that no server has more than one more session than any other server.

“The core idea clicked pretty fast once I thought about it as a load balancing problem.”

Apr 2026
Palantir SWE interview with a graph shortest path problem. Not much context on how it went but the question itself was pretty standard Dijkstra territory.
  • Given a graph with arbitrary edge weights, find the shortest path between two nodes.

“Classic weighted shortest path setup, so Dijkstra is the obvious answer.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Palantir behavioral round for a software engineer role. Five questions, all the classic 'tell me about a time' format but they go deeper than most places I've interviewed at. Left feeling okay about it but not confident.
  • Tell me about a time you dealt with conflict within your team.
  • Describe a situation where you faced significant ambiguity. How did you bring clarity to it?
  • Walk me through a failure and what you actually changed as a result.
  • How have you mentored or influenced someone when you had no formal authority over them?
  • Give an example of working across teams or functions to deliver something together.

“I had a decent story here but I spent too long on the setup and barely got to what I actually did.”

First round at Palantir for a new grad SWE role, 45 minutes, one string manipulation problem. The interviewer was relaxed and helpful, and I came out of it cautiously optimistic but not confident.
  • Given a sentence and a query consisting of two words, plus an integer K, find all positions in the sentence where the first query word appears, then check whether the second query word shows up within K words after it. Return only the positions where both conditions are satisfied.

“Lost a solid 10 minutes convinced there was some logic bug in my approach.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Palantir system design round for a software engineer role. The whole thing was one big open-ended design question about an internal employee interest-matching platform, and they pushed hard on every layer of the stack.
  • Design a system that connects employees across a company based on shared interests. Walk through the key features, data model, storage choices, APIs, matching logic, and how you'd handle privacy and access control for an internal-only tool.
  • How would you approach the cold start problem for new employees who haven't set up a profile or tagged any interests yet?
  • What ranking signals would you use to surface the most relevant employee connections, and how would you update those rankings in near real-time as interests change?
  • Describe the high-level architecture for this system, including the services, databases, search indices, caching layer, and event/queue infrastructure.
  • How does this system scale to tens of thousands of employees, and what monitoring and abuse prevention would you put in place?

“This felt like five questions crammed into one.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Palantir behavioral round for a software engineering role. Three questions, all ethics and judgment flavored. The kind of interview where they're clearly trying to figure out if you'll push back on something uncomfortable or just go along with whatever.
  • Tell me about a time you made a decision that was technically the right call but politically unpopular. How did you handle the fallout with stakeholders?
  • If you found yourself in a role where the company's direction genuinely conflicted with your personal values, what would you do?
  • Have you ever pushed back on or refused a directive from your manager? Walk me through what happened and what you did instead.

“This one tripped me up a bit because my first instinct was to pick a story where I came out looking good.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Palantir system design round for a software engineer role, focused almost entirely on building a multi-tenant data analysis platform for government and enterprise clients. Less about scale, more about permissions, compliance, audit trails, and what happens when things go wrong. The interviewer kept pushing on failure scenarios in a way I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Design a multi-tenant data analysis platform for government and enterprise users, with an emphasis on complex permissions, compliance, and audit logging rather than raw scale.
  • How would you handle data residency requirements and PII or regulated data in a shared platform used by multiple tenants across different jurisdictions?
  • Walk through how you'd design comprehensive audit logging for this platform. What gets logged, how is it stored, and how do you ensure the logs themselves are trustworthy?
  • How would you implement end-to-end data lineage tracking across ingestion, transformation, and analysis steps?
  • Assume mistakes will happen. How do you detect data leaks or unauthorized access after the fact, and how do you roll back or quarantine affected data?

“I started with the usual capacity planning stuff out of habit and the interviewer kind of redirected me pretty quickly.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Recruiter / HR Screen

May 2026
Recruiter screen for a software engineer role at Palantir, pretty standard logistics call covering comp, location, and availability. Nothing technical, just the usual pre-screen stuff.
  • What are your compensation expectations, including base salary, bonus, and any equity component?
  • What is your preferred work location and arrangement, remote or in-office?
  • What is your earliest available start date?
  • Are you authorized to work in this country, and do you require visa sponsorship?
  • Do you have any competing offers or timeline constraints we should be aware of?
  • Do you have any questions about the role, the team, or what the next steps in the process look like?

“Always awkward to go first on this.”

May 2026
Palantir SWE interview, just one question about what my day-to-day looks like. Not much to report.
  • Walk me through what a typical day looks like in your current role.

“Pretty standard opener.”
