Stripe·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
PM interview at Stripe focused entirely on the payments product. Three questions, all tightly scoped around metrics, authorization rates, and checkout conversion. Pretty technical for a product role but makes sense given Stripe's DNA.
  • If you were the PM for Stripe Payments, how would you improve it?
  • What metrics would you track as the PM for Stripe Payments?
  • How would you go about increasing authorization rate?
  • What would you do to increase checkout conversion?

“Classic product improvement question but Stripe makes it harder because their users are developers and businesses, not consumers.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Apr 2026
Stripe coding round for a software engineer role, focused on banking and transaction problems. Managed to get through two of the three questions, which felt okay but not great leaving the room.
  • Design and implement a system to track account balances and process bank transactions.

“This was the main question and I got through it but the third part tripped me up.”

Stripe technical screen for a software engineer role, centered entirely on extending a fraud detection pipeline with behavioral baseline matching. Pretty deep problem for a single session, and I felt like I was building the plane while flying it the whole time.
  • You have a fraud detection pipeline that already validates transactions and applies basic risk rules. How would you extend it to support user behavioral baseline matching, where each transaction is compared against the user's historical profile and flagged if too many features deviate from the norm?
  • How would you build and incrementally update a user's behavioral baseline over time as new transactions come in?
  • The 50% match ratio threshold is hardcoded in your design. Where and how should that threshold be made configurable, and what are the tradeoffs of setting it too high or too low?

“The core of the whole interview.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Apr 2026
Went through the full Stripe new grad loop: online assessment, a phone screen with multi-part problems, then a virtual onsite with three rounds. The Bug Squash round was brutal and probably where things fell apart, but the whole process was a useful gut-check on where my skills actually stand.
  • Given a large unfamiliar codebase, can you identify and fix the bugs present?
  • Walk me through a time you took ownership of a project or problem and drove it to completion.
  • How do you approach working with a team when things aren't going smoothly?

“This is where I lost it.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Stripe coding screen, backend-flavored. The problem was a data validation pipeline and it had more moving parts than I expected for a single session.
  • Build a three-part key-value data validation routine: parse a record set, validate each record against a schema with required keys, types, and value constraints, then report all errors with the offending key and reason. The solution must handle nested keys and both missing and extra fields.

“The parsing part was fine, I knocked that out fast.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Behavioral round at Stripe for a software engineering role, four questions, all pretty standard but the conflict one tripped me up more than I expected.
  • Tell me about your most challenging project. What made it hard and how did you push it forward?
  • What would make you want to leave a company, and what draws you to a new one?
  • When you're leading a project, how do you break down the work, assign ownership, and make sure things actually get done?
  • Describe a conflict you had with a peer or manager. What happened and how did it get resolved?

“I had a solid story ready but I kept getting pulled into the technical weeds and forgot to actually explain why it was hard from a people or process angle.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Stripe debugging interview for a software engineering role. The whole thing was focused on a real open-source codebase (Mako templates) and you had to find two specific bugs, not just write code from scratch. Felt more like a code review session than a typical coding round.
  • In the Mako template library source, there's a bug in a file path check using os.path.isdir. What's wrong with it and how do you fix it?
  • There's also a bug in an AST visitor method signature in the same codebase. The method is defined as visit_arg(self, node) but it doesn't work correctly. What's the issue?

“The variable being passed to os.path.isdir was scrfile, which at that point in the code is the source file path, not a directory.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Stripe technical screen for a software engineer role, focused on the early stage of a data reconciliation pipeline. The problem was scoped tightly but clearly meant to test how you think about data integrity and canonical modeling before you even get to the interesting matching logic.
  • Build the initial setup of a data integration and reconciliation pipeline: write a loader for two datasets from different systems, validate each record's fields and types, and produce a shared canonical in-memory representation so both sources can be compared downstream.

“The scope felt manageable at first but I spent too long on the loader abstraction and not enough time thinking through what 'canonical' actually means when two systems disagree on field names or types.”

Stripe product interview with a goal-setting question focused on Stripe Atlas. Not much context given about the format but it was interactive, so there was some back and forth.
  • How would you set a quarterly goal for Stripe Atlas?

“I fumbled around trying to define what Atlas even optimizes for before picking a metric.”

Stripe·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Stripe coding round for a software engineer role, focused entirely on building a transaction reconciliation system incrementally. The interviewer kept pushing for the next step rather than letting me design it all upfront, which threw me off a bit. Interesting problem though, more real-world than the usual leetcode stuff.
  • Given two sets of transaction records in a shared format (transaction_id, amount, status, timestamp), implement a reconciliation system step by step: first pair records by ID, then detect field-level mismatches, then classify discrepancies, then produce a summary report.
  • How would you handle duplicate transaction IDs within a dataset, and what data structure choices support one-to-many matching?
  • How would you extend the matching logic to handle cases where transaction IDs are missing, using fuzzy matching on a composite key like timestamp plus amount within some tolerance?

“The incremental part is what got me.”
