Amazon·Software Engineer·Online Assessment (OA)

Jun 2026
Did an Amazon SWE online assessment that had a content moderation coding question. Passed most of the unit tests but not all, and somehow still got an HR followup, so I guess it wasn't a total disaster.
  • Implement content moderation logic for a review system: wire in a bad-word check on add and edit review endpoints, track user violation counts, flag users after repeated violations, and make the existing unit tests pass.

“The actual logic wasn't that complicated once I found the content check function buried in a separate file.”

Amazon·Product Manager·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jun 2026
Amazon product design interview, got asked to build out a 'notify me' feature end to end. Pretty open-ended and I wasn't totally sure how deep to go on the technical side versus the product side.
  • How would you design a 'notify me' feature for a website?

“I started with clarifying questions which felt right, like what triggers the notification, what channels are supported, what scale we're talking about.”

Amazon·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Amazon PM loop, one of those behavioral rounds that's basically just leadership principle probing dressed up as conversation. This question was the one that made me actually pause.
  • Describe a situation where you went to bat for a team member who had less organizational power or influence than you.

“I had a story ready but it felt thin the moment I started telling it.”

Amazon OA for a SWE role, one algorithmic problem involving region-based data distribution with affinity scores and pairing rules. The problem looked like a greedy question at first but the constraints make it way more involved.
  • Given an even number of data pieces each with an affinity value, distribute them across two regions by alternating selections. Certain pairs are linked so that picking one forces the other into the next region. Find the maximum total affinity achievable for region A.

“I stared at this for a while before realizing it's not just a greedy pick-the-max problem.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Amazon SWE interview with a string manipulation problem that had a follow-up on complexity tradeoffs. Pretty focused session, just the one algorithmic question but they pushed hard on the analysis side.
  • Given an alphanumeric string with mixed casing, find the index of the first character that appears exactly once. If no such character exists, return -1. Walk through an O(n) solution and compare it against a sorting-based approach in terms of time and space.

“Got the linear scan approach pretty fast, two passes through the string, first to build a frequency map and second to find the first count-of-one.”

Amazon·Technical Program Manager·Hiring Manager Screen

Jun 2026
TPM interview at Amazon, came down to a pretty foundational project management question. Short and to the point, nothing fancy.
  • What are the key components that make up a project charter?

“Felt like a warm-up but I still fumbled the order a bit.”

Amazon·Product Manager·Hiring Manager Screen

Jun 2026
Amazon interview with a prioritization question. Not much else to go on, but it's a classic one they seem to love.
  • What are the main factors you consider when deciding how to prioritize?

“I rambled a bit about impact vs effort and then tried to tie it back to customer value, which felt like the right instinct for Amazon.”

Amazon SWE coding round, one problem the whole time. It was dressed up in a customer behavior story but stripped down it's just a substring counting problem with a specific constraint.
  • Given a binary string representing a user's action history, count all substrings where the number of '0's equals the square of the number of '1's.

“The Amazon framing about 'major vs minor actions' threw me off for a second because I kept trying to make the business context mean something for the solution.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Amazon SWE phone screen that came down to a union-find problem. The product-merge framing threw me a bit but the underlying algorithm is the same old connected components stuff.
  • Given a list of product pairs where each pair means the two products share a category, count the total number of distinct categories and the size of each at the end.
  • Given n nodes and an edge list, count the number of connected components in the graph.
  • How would you detect whether adding a new edge to a graph creates a cycle?

“I went with BFS flood-fill because I can write that cleanly under pressure and it passed.”

Amazon·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Interviewed for a PM role at Amazon. Pretty standard behavioral round, came down to leadership principles like they always do.
  • How do you handle roadblocks or obstacles when working toward a goal?

“Classic Amazon LP question.”
