Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Product sense round at Google for a PM role. Just one question but it had some real depth to it once I got into it.
  • How would you improve the search function on Walmart.com?

“Started by scoping the user base which felt right, but I jumped to solutions way too fast.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Google SWE system design round, just one question the whole time: design a rate limiter. Felt like a deceptively open-ended prompt that could go a dozen different directions.
  • Design a rate limiter.

“Started with token bucket because it felt safe, then the interviewer kept pushing on distributed scenarios and I kind of scrambled.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Went through a product sense round at Google for a PM role. Just one question but it took the whole session to unpack properly.
  • What is your least favorite product that you use, and how would you improve it?

“I picked something I genuinely disliked thinking that would make it easier to talk about.”

Google·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Google SWE interview with a question that sounds straightforward until you actually have to answer it on the spot. It's basically a 'why Google, but make it technical and career-spanning' prompt and it requires more prep than most people give it.
  • If you joined Google, which team, product area, or technical problem would you want to work on, and why? Walk through how your background fits, what you could contribute in the first 6-12 months, and how this role fits your longer-term career path.

“This question wrecked me a little.”

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Interviewed for a data engineer role at Google and the focus was entirely on SQL stored procedures. Pretty narrow scope for a big company interview but I guess they wanted to see how deep you actually go on the fundamentals.
  • What are SQL stored procedures and how would you use them in a data engineering context?

“Went through the basics fine but I rambled a bit when they pushed on real-world use cases.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Google PM interview, one behavioral question about a messy project situation. Pretty standard but the kind of thing that trips you up if you don't have a real story ready.
  • You're on a project where deadlines and targets keep slipping. How do you handle it?

“I fumbled this a bit because I jumped straight into 'here's what I'd do' mode instead of grounding it in a real example first.”

Google·Technical Program Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Went through a behavioral round at Google for a TPM role. Just the one question shared here but it's a classic and they really do dig into it.
  • Describe a situation where you had to manage competing priorities across multiple projects at the same time.

“I had a decent story ready but fumbled the structure midway through.”

Google·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

Google DS technical screen, basically a two-part SQL and pandas gauntlet. The problem was dense and I spent way too long second-guessing the timezone conversion logic before even touching the SRM calculation. Not a vibe-check round at all.
  • Write a single SQL query to compute daily metrics for a specific local date derived from UTC timestamps, including new buyer counts, cart-to-paid conversion rates for new vs returning buyers, and a sample-ratio-mismatch p-value for an experiment variant split.
  • Given an events DataFrame with a JSON properties column, write idiomatic pandas code (no UDFs) to deduplicate add-to-cart events within a session and SKU by collapsing events within 2 minutes of each other, then count distinct deduplicated events per user, local date, and SKU.

“This was the bulk of the session.”

Google SWE coding round, one main problem with a follow-up. The core question was a grid pathfinding variant I'd seen before in a different form, but the follow-up on DFS with binary search tripped me up more than I expected.
  • Given an m by n grid where every cell has a unique height, find a path from the top-left to the bottom-right corner using 4-directional moves such that the maximum height encountered along the path is as small as possible. Return that minimized maximum value.
  • Can you solve the same grid path problem using DFS instead? Specifically, binary search on a height threshold and check reachability with DFS. What is the time complexity of that approach?

“I recognized this as a min-bottleneck path problem pretty quickly, which helped.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Google PM interview question about handling tight and competing deadlines. Pretty standard behavioral territory but the stakeholder communication angle made it more layered than I expected.
  • Walk me through how you handle tight deadlines and multiple competing priorities at once, including how you communicate risks and trade-offs to stakeholders.

“I focused too much on my personal prioritization system and kind of buried the stakeholder communication part until the end.”
