Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jun 2026
Google EM system design round, one question about building a web crawler. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't fully ready for.
  • Design a web crawler from scratch.

“I jumped straight into the URL frontier and crawl scheduling before even clarifying scope, which I think hurt me.”

Went through a Google SWE interview that had a behavioral section followed by one algorithmic question. Got rejected, and I'm still not totally sure if it was the hints I needed or the fact that I never actually coded the solution.
  • Tell me about a time you completely disagreed with someone.
  • Describe a situation where you had to resolve a conflict with a colleague or stakeholder.
  • Given an algorithmic problem, prove the correctness of your proposed solution.

“Weakest part of my behavioral prep by far.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Interviewed for a PM role at Google and got hit with a pricing scenario question about a drugstore product. Short session, not much else to report.
  • You notice that a product in a drugstore is priced very high. How do you react and what would you do?

“I went straight to user empathy and started talking about willingness to pay, which felt right but I probably skipped over the obvious stuff like checking if it's a niche product with no substitutes.”

Google·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Google SWE interview with one question that stopped me cold for a second.
  • Why should we NOT hire you?

“Read that back a few times before answering.”

Interviewed for a PM role at Google and got asked what felt like a warmup question about Amazon products. Short session, not much to report.
  • What is your favorite Amazon product?

“Felt like a curveball coming from Google.”

Google SWE coding round, just one algorithmic problem about generating all subsets of an array. Pretty standard backtracking territory but easy to fumble if you haven't drilled it recently.
  • Given an array of unique integers, return all possible subsets (the power set), including the empty set.

“I knew this one but still fumbled the initial setup.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
PM interview at Google with a product strategy question about hardware sales. Pretty straightforward single-question format, though the scope of the question left a lot of room to go in different directions.
  • How would you go about increasing sales of Google's wireless headset?

“I started with market segmentation which felt right but I probably spent too long on it before getting to actual recommendations.”

Google·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Data wrangling interview for a Data Scientist role at Google, focused entirely on R and dplyr. Three questions, all practical, all connected around the same two tables. Not a vibe check at all, just code.
  • Using dplyr in R, how would you randomly sample exactly 50% of the rows in a data frame?
  • Perform a left join between the products table and the discounts table on the product id column. What does the result look like for products with no matching discount?
  • Write a simulation in R where, for each run, half the products keep their original price and the other half get a 10% price increase. Return the average simulated price across runs.

“slice_sample() with prop=0.5 is the clean answer and I got there, but I initially started talking about sample_n() out of habit before catching myself.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
A product strategy question at Google about taking a niche physical goods business to market. Short on details but the question itself is a decent case exercise.
  • How would you build a go-to-market strategy for a rug business?

“Threw me a bit because it's so far from anything tech.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Google for a PM role, basically one question that took up most of the time.
  • Tell me about the most challenging situation you faced in your career and how you handled it.

“I had a story ready but halfway through I could tell it wasn't landing.”
