Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Google PM interview with a classic estimation question. Pretty standard case format but the open-ended airport framing tripped me up more than I expected.
  • Pick an airport and estimate the number of people going through the security scan in a single day.

“I picked a mid-size airport thinking it'd be easier to reason about than a hub like JFK, but then I second-guessed myself halfway through because I had no anchor for gate counts.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Jun 2026
Google SWE coding round, one algorithmic problem that looked deceptively simple at first glance. The problem had a neat structural insight hiding under the surface and a bunch of follow-ups that kept coming after you thought you were done.
  • You have a 1D board as a string with empty cells, coins, and tokens. Tokens can only move exactly 3 cells to the right, can't share a cell, and collect coins only on landing. What's the maximum number of coins you can collect?
  • How does your solution change if the move distance is k instead of 3?
  • What if coins had different values and you wanted to maximize total value instead of coin count? Does the same approach still work?
  • What if tokens could also move left by 3? How does that change reachability and the non-crossing argument?
  • If you also had to output one valid optimal move sequence (not just the count), how would you construct it and what's the bound on its length?

“I started by thinking about it as some kind of BFS or greedy sweep and got confused fast.”

Google·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Jun 2026
Interviewed for a business analyst role at Google, just the one question that I can remember clearly. It was a competitive pricing analysis type of thing and I fumbled through it more than I'd like to admit.
  • How would you assess our pricing relative to competitors using only publicly available data?

“I went straight to listing data sources (review sites, job postings, press releases) but didn't really structure a methodology before diving in.”

Google·Technical Program Manager·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Interviewed for a TPM role at Google, got asked about technical contributions to past projects. Pretty standard stuff but it made me realize I hadn't prepared a tight answer for it.
  • Can you walk me through a specific technical contribution you made on a project?

“I fumbled this a bit because I kept defaulting to talking about what the team did rather than what I personally drove.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Google product design interview, one question about designing an app for the DMV. Not much else to go on but it was a real brain-scratcher.
  • Design an app for the DMV.

“My first instinct was to just list features and I had to stop myself.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Went through a product sense round at Google for a PM role. Just one question but it was the kind that sounds breezy until you're actually in it.
  • How many chickens are there in the world?

“Classic estimation question.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Google for a PM role, basically one question that took up most of the time.
  • Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond for a customer.

“Pretty standard behavioral prompt but I fumbled it a bit.”

Google PM interview with a single product design question about a vending machine in a hotel lobby. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't quite prepared for.
  • How would you design a vending machine specifically for a hotel lobby?

“I jumped straight into features and totally skipped user segmentation, which I regretted about two minutes in.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Cross-functional / Panel

Jun 2026
Got a PM-flavored question thrown at me during a Google SWE interview, which was a bit of a curveball. The whole thing was framed as a cross-functional conflict scenario where you're supposed to wrangle disagreeing teams and pick a language. Not what I was expecting from a technical loop.
  • You're the lead PM on a Google product and your cross-functional teams can't agree on a programming language. How do you handle the disagreement, and what language do you pick and why?

“I fumbled the opening because I went straight to picking a language instead of addressing the people problem first.”

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Three coding problems back to back for a Google SWE round. Nothing too outrageous but the tree distance one had some edge case discussion that I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Implement Quickselect to find the k-th smallest element in an unsorted integer array (1-indexed, duplicates allowed). Walk through different approaches and their complexities, explain how you'd choose a pivot, then code a working solution.
  • Given an undirected tree as an edge list and two nodes u and v, return the number of edges on the path between them. Return 0 if they're the same node, -1 if either node doesn't exist. Be ready to discuss how you'd handle invalid input like duplicate edges.
  • Count how many substrings of a string s start with a given non-empty prefix target. Return the count as a 64-bit integer. Follow-up: find the length of the shortest such substring, or return -1 if none exist.

“I knew Quickselect going in but fumbled the pivot discussion more than I expected.”
