FAANG / Big Tech

Most of these Google write-ups come from Software Engineers (1,167), then Product Managers (686) and Data Scientists (125). The most reported rounds are the product sense round (667), the technical phone screen (660), the behavioral / leadership round (252) and the onsite coding round (214).

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apr 2026
Interviewed for a security engineer role at Google, got asked a pretty foundational question that I probably overthought.
  • How would you define a vulnerability?

“Seemed basic but I stumbled a bit trying to sound precise.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
Google PM interview with a classic product design question about increasing fruit consumption in the US. Pretty open-ended, which sounds fun until you're actually in it.
  • Design a product that increases fruit consumption in the US.

“I went straight to user segmentation, which felt right, but I think I spent too long on the problem space and rushed the actual solution.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Apr 2026
Google SWE coding round, got a subarray problem that looked deceptively clean but the O(n) constraint is where it gets interesting. Not sure how it went.
  • Given an integer array, compute the total sum of all 'good' subarrays, where a subarray is good if every pair of adjacent elements differs by exactly 1. The solution must run in O(n) time.

“My first instinct was just enumerate all valid subarrays and sum them up, which is obviously not O(n).”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Behavioral and leadership round at Google for a software engineering role. Three parts: a project walkthrough, some team-lead hypotheticals, and conflict/feedback questions. No coding, just a lot of talking through how you think.
  • Walk me through a project you worked on: your role, the technical challenges, the decisions you made, and the impact.
  • A team member keeps missing sprint commitments. How do you handle it in the short term, and what do you do to prevent it from happening again?
  • If a teammate keeps missing deadlines even after coaching and a documented improvement plan, what's your escalation path?
  • You have a body of work to split across engineers with different strengths. How do you assign roles and responsibilities?
  • Midway through delivery, one workstream is falling far behind and threatening the deadline. How do you rebalance ownership without demoralizing anyone?
  • Your team hits a problem nobody has experience with. How do you lead them to make progress?
  • The discovery spike came back inconclusive and the deadline is fixed. Do you commit to a 'good enough' solution, ask for more time, or cut scope?
  • How do you handle conflict on a team, and how do you give and receive difficult feedback?
  • How does your approach to all of this change when you have no formal authority versus when you're the actual people manager?

“I picked one project and tried to go deep instead of name-dropping three different things.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
Google PM interview with a pretty wild hypothetical strategy question. One question, no fluff, just a big open-ended scenario that either clicks for you or doesn't.
  • You're a senior leader at Google. A bridge connecting Africa to the United States has just been built. What should Google do next?

“I stalled for a second because the premise is so absurd it's hard to know if they want you to play it straight or zoom out into pure strategy mode.”

Google·Technical Program Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
Google TPM interview with a single product design question about large events and concerts. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Design a solution for attending large events and concerts.

“I went straight into logistics and ticketing, which in hindsight was too narrow.”

Google SWE coding round, one algorithmic problem on subarrays. Pretty standard stuff but the follow-up on optimization is where it gets interesting.
  • Given an integer array and an integer k, find the length of the shortest contiguous subarray that contains at least k distinct integers. Return -1 if none exists.

“Started with brute force because I panicked a little and needed to say something.”

Interviewed at Google for a product role and got hit with a classic product improvement question about Google News. Pretty standard stuff but it opened up more than I expected once I started talking through it.
  • How would you improve Google News?

“I went straight to personalization and content freshness, which felt safe but maybe too safe.”

Google SWE interview where they handed me a broken feature enablement system and told me to find and fix the bugs. AI tooling was allowed during debugging which was a nice change, but the problem itself had enough moving parts that I was still sweating through it.
  • You're given a buggy implementation of a feature enablement system. A config file declares features and their dependencies. Given a user, their country, OS version, pre-enabled features, and a list of requested features, fix the code so it correctly grants requests only when: the user meets country and OS restrictions for all requested features, all transitive dependencies are satisfied, and there are no cycles in the dependency graph.

“Three separate correctness conditions and I had to untangle which bugs corresponded to which.”

Interviewed at Google for a product role focused on YouTube search. Just the one question from what was shared, but it's a meaty one that I didn't feel fully prepared for.
  • How would you define success for YouTube search?

“I went straight to engagement metrics and kind of dug myself into a hole.”
