Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Apr 2026
Google PM interview with a single product design question focused on an underserved demographic. Pretty open-ended and I wasn't totally sure how deep they wanted me to go on the user research side versus jumping straight to features.
  • Design a Google product for people living in retirement homes.

“I spent the first couple minutes trying to segment the user base and almost overcomplicated it.”

Barely anything to go on here. Someone asked how Balsamiq works in what seems to be a Google interview context, but there's no real detail about the role, the round, or how it went.
  • How does Balsamiq work?

Got a product estimation question for a Google role, pretty classic YouTube numbers prompt. Nothing too wild but I definitely fumbled the structure early on.
  • How many videos are watched on YouTube in a single day?

“Started by trying to estimate global internet users and immediately got lost in my own math.”

Google SWE coding round with a board simulation problem. The question was deceptively tricky once multiple tokens got involved and I kept second-guessing whether move order actually mattered.
  • You have a 1D board with tokens and coins. Each token can only move right, jumping exactly 3 cells at a time. A token collects a coin if it lands on one. Given multiple tokens, find the maximum total coins collectible, and explain whether the order in which you move tokens affects the result.

“Spent the first few minutes just drawing it out on the whiteboard because I wasn't sure I understood the jump constraint correctly.”

Google SWE interview with a string manipulation problem. Pretty standard stuff but worth logging for anyone prepping.
  • Write a function to reverse the words in a sentence.

“Seemed easy at first and I jumped straight to splitting on spaces, but then they pushed on edge cases like multiple spaces between words and leading/trailing whitespace.”

Google coding round for a software engineer role. One question, a tree problem dressed up with a fun theme, and I spent more time second-guessing my data structure choice than actually solving it.
  • Given a horse family tree (genealogy data) and two horses, determine whether the two horses share a blood relation.

“It's basically lowest common ancestor but reframed as a genealogy problem.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Apr 2026
Interviewed for a software engineer role at Google and got hit with a behavioral question about navigating unclear or sketchy-seeming projects. Pretty short interaction overall, not much else to report.
  • If you were assigned to a project that felt unclear or ethically questionable, how would you handle it?

“I fumbled this a bit.”

Got a product design question at Google about carpooling, pretty light on context but interesting to think through.
  • What data points would you need to build and run a carpool matching program?

“I went straight to the obvious stuff: pickup location, destination, departure time.”

Google SWE coding round where they threw a multi-elevator controller problem at me. More of a systems-meets-algorithms hybrid than a pure leetcode grind, which I wasn't fully expecting.
  • Design and implement a multi-elevator controller that receives ride requests (each with a timestamp, pickup floor, and destination floor) and dispatches each request to one of E elevators. Output the assigned elevator ID for each request in input order.

“This one took me a minute to even figure out what they wanted.”

Google SWE interview with a classic graph problem. Nothing too surprising but the BFS angle required more thought than I expected going in.
  • Given a start word, an end word, and a dictionary of words, find the length of the shortest transformation sequence where each step changes exactly one letter and every intermediate word must exist in the dictionary. Return 0 if no path exists.

“I knew this was a graph problem pretty quickly but fumbled explaining why BFS and not DFS.”
