Palantir·Software Engineer·Recruiter / HR Screen

Aug 2026
Palantir recruiter screen that started fine but got complicated when the citizenship question came up. The recruiter tried to pivot me to a non-clearance team, which felt like a good sign, but I got rejected anyway and still don't really know why.
  • Are you eligible to obtain a security clearance?

“Said no because I'm on a green card, not a citizen.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Aug 2026
Interviewed for a Forward Deployed Engineer role at Palantir and made it through the HR phone screen before getting cut after the first onsite. The process is weirdly unstructured compared to most big tech interviews, and the rounds are spaced out 3-4 weeks apart which sounds nice until you're just waiting around anxious.
  • Tell us about yourself beyond your technical background. Who are you as a person?
  • Design and decompose a system (e.g. an app that helps users find nearby food options). Walk through the data entities, core features, and how you'd handle edge cases like dietary restrictions.
  • Solve a coding problem while explaining your thought process in real time.

“The phone screen wasn't with HR, it was an engineer, which threw me off a bit.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jul 2026
Did a Palantir SWE intern interview split between behavioral and technical. Behavioral was fine, technical was rough. Still waiting to hear back and genuinely unsure if the coding struggle is a dealbreaker.
  • Given a technical problem, can you brainstorm and arrive at an optimal solution within a constrained time window?

“Needed a hint to get to the optimal approach, which already felt bad.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Palantir coding round, one meaty problem about employees and shared interests. The question had two parts and they wanted complexity analysis on top of working code, which I wasn't fully expecting.
  • Given N employees, each with an integer id and a set of interests (strings), write an algorithm to find all employees who share at least one common interest. You can return either a mapping from each interest to the sorted list of employee ids who have it, or the list of all unique employee-id pairs that share one or more interests (or both). Analyze time and space complexity.

“The first part, building the interest-to-employees map, felt manageable.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jul 2026
Palantir system design round for a software engineer role. The question was a single massive prompt covering basically every dimension of platform architecture you can think of, and they clearly wanted to see how you'd prioritize and structure your thinking under pressure.
  • Design a scalable platform for managing interview questions, including authoring, tagging, difficulty calibration, search, and versioning. Walk through the API design, data models, and indexing strategy.
  • How would you design the recommendation and ranking system for surfacing relevant questions during a live interview session?
  • What are your consistency versus availability tradeoffs for this platform, and where would you make different choices across different components?
  • How would you handle multi-region deployment and caching layers for this platform?
  • How would you design the permissions and roles model, and what abuse prevention mechanisms would you put in place?
  • How would you support offline editing and syncing for interviewers who lose connectivity mid-session?
  • What monitoring, alerting, and cost considerations would you prioritize for this platform at scale?

“I started with the data model and that was probably the right call.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Palantir's behavioral round for this software engineer role leaned hard into values and ethics, not the usual teamwork fluff. Three questions, all designed to figure out if you'll push back or just go along with things.
  • Tell me about a time you made a decision that was technically the right call but created political friction. What happened?
  • What would you do if the company's direction started conflicting with your personal values?
  • Have you ever pushed back on a decision your manager made? Walk me through it.

“This one tripped me up more than I expected.”

Palantir software engineer round with a graph traversal question. Pretty standard stuff, nothing too wild.
  • Given a graph of cities where all edge weights are equal to 1, find the shortest path between two cities.

“Straightforward BFS, which is exactly what you'd reach for when all edges cost the same.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Palantir software engineer interview with a graph problem focused on road networks. The whole session was basically a code review plus implementation exercise, which I wasn't fully expecting going in.
  • Given a list of Road objects representing bidirectional roads, build an adjacency-list graph. The existing code treats roads as one-way. Fix it.
  • Given two Location objects, find the shortest distance between them assuming all roads have weight 1. Return -1 if unreachable. What is the time and space complexity?
  • Now with arbitrary non-negative road distances, find the shortest path between two Location objects. Return -1 if unreachable. Discuss complexity.

“The bug itself was obvious once they pointed to the one-way treatment, but I fumbled a bit explaining why bidirectional matters in terms of the data structure.”

Resume deep dive at Palantir for a software engineer role. You pick a project, walk through it, and then they pepper you with follow-ups. The follow-ups were way less technical than I expected, mostly about process and decision-making.
  • Walk me through a project you've worked on that you're proud of.
  • How did you decide on the approach you took for that project? What alternatives did you consider?
  • How did you handle uncertainty or changing requirements during the project?

“You get to pick the project, which sounds like a gift until you're mid-explanation and realize you picked something too complicated to summarize in 15 minutes.”

Palantir·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Jun 2026
Palantir code review round for a software engineer role, focused on a graph problem involving city roads. The class structure was dense enough to slow things down, and there was a classic bug hiding in plain sight.
  • You are given a code snippet modeling a road network with classes for locations, roads, and road connections. Review the code, identify bugs, and explain how you would traverse the graph correctly.

“The class setup is genuinely messy to read.”
