Samsung·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Sep 2026
Interviewed for a staff-level internal dev platform role at a hardware company you'd definitely recognize. The take-home went sideways because I tried to do more than asked, shipped a failing test, and then had to debug it live in front of five people at 7AM. It did not go well.
  • Given a working codebase as a take-home, implement one of two specified changes (with tests passing).
  • Build a REST API for a reservation system from scratch, including tests, within one hour.
  • System design interview round (details not specified).

“I decided to do both options instead of one.”

Samsung·QA / Test Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Aug 2026
Samsung SDET interview, three coding problems, couldn't crack any of them. Rejected.
  • Given an array of non-negative integers and an integer k, split the array into k non-empty subarrays such that the largest subarray sum is minimized. Return that minimized largest sum.
  • Given a hand of cards where each card has exactly two letters, determine the winner of a two-letter card game based on the game's rules.
  • Given a sorted list of words in an alien language, derive the order of the alphabet used in that language and return it as a string.

“Binary search on the answer is the move here but my brain just went blank.”

Samsung·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Jul 2026
Went in for a mid-level software engineer interview and spent the whole thing getting lectured by a director of engineering who decided within the first two minutes that I was doing everything wrong. Less an interview, more a one-sided roast session I wasn't allowed to respond to.
  • What area of knowledge do you most want to develop over the next year?
  • Walk me through a technical problem you solved that you listed on your resume.

“Said system design, because I work with microservices but never really got visibility into the architectural decisions behind them.”

Samsung·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jul 2026
Two rounds for a new-grad infra/backend SWE role at what sounds like a big semiconductor company. Resume walkthrough and API stuff in round one, then live coding on HackerRank plus an API design discussion in round two. Felt okay about both but now sitting at 10 days past the promised 5-7 business day window with nothing from the recruiter.
  • Walk us through your resume and relevant experience.
  • API design questions covering how you'd structure and expose backend services.
  • Live coding problem in a HackerRank environment (LeetCode-style algorithmic question).

“Pretty standard opener but I always underestimate how much they actually dig in.”

Samsung·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Samsung PM interview with a single product design question. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't fully ready for.
  • How would you design a smart picture frame?

“I fumbled the opening a bit because I jumped straight into features without clarifying who the user even is.”

Samsung·Machine Learning Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Samsung ML Engineer interview that was basically a palindrome deep-dive. More algorithmic than I expected for an ML role, but they clearly wanted to see how you reason through edge cases and complexity constraints, not just whether you know the answer.
  • Given a string, return true if it reads the same forwards and backwards after stripping non-alphanumeric characters and ignoring case. Your solution must run in O(n) time and use O(1) extra space.
  • Modify your palindrome solution so it returns true if the string can become a palindrome by deleting at most one character.
  • How would you extend this solution to handle full Unicode, including combining marks and non-ASCII letters?
  • Write test cases for your palindrome solution and analyze the time and space complexity of each variant you implemented.

“Two pointers from both ends, skip non-alphanumeric chars, compare lowercased.”

Samsung·Software Engineer·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Samsung interview focused entirely on data collection strategy for their e-commerce platform. One question, pretty open-ended, but it went deeper than I expected once we got into the weeds.
  • A customer just purchased a product on Samsung.com. What data could you collect about that buyer, and how would you go about collecting it?

“I started rattling off the obvious stuff: name, email, shipping address, payment method.”

Samsung·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Samsung Data Scientist interview with a fermi estimation question about laptop counts in a corporate office. Pretty classic back-of-envelope stuff but the details they wanted made it trickier than expected.
  • Roughly how many laptops are physically present in a typical corporate office at any given moment? Walk through your assumptions, clarify what you're counting as a laptop, and give both a point estimate and a reasonable range.

“I started with headcount and worked outward, which felt right, but I almost forgot about the hybrid work piece entirely.”

Samsung·Data Analyst·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Samsung data analyst interview with a single scenario-based case question about planning a parking lot for a Best Buy store. Pretty open-ended, which I didn't expect for a DA role. No coding, just structured thinking.
  • You're working at Best Buy and have been asked to plan a new parking lot for a specific store. What data would you collect to make decisions about its size, layout, and operating policies?

“I went straight to foot traffic and peak hours because that felt obvious, but I stalled a bit when trying to connect data sources to actual decisions.”

Samsung·Software Engineer·Online Assessment (OA)

Jun 2026
Samsung SWE interview, got a grid traversal problem that felt pretty standard but I still managed to overthink parts of it. Not much else to say about the round itself.
  • Given a 2D grid of '1's and '0's representing land and water, count the number of distinct islands, where an island is a group of horizontally or vertically connected land cells.

“I went with DFS and marked visited cells by flipping them to '0' in place.”
