Amazon·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
PM behavioral round at Amazon, pretty much a single leadership principle question that took up most of the time.
  • Tell me about a time you identified an unexplored opportunity. How did you spot it, what did you do about it, and what happened?

“I had a story prepped for this but it was a bit too reactive, like I stumbled into the opportunity rather than actively hunting for it.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Amazon for a software engineering role. Just the one question but it had a lot of layers to it, more than I expected going in.
  • Tell me about a time you had to deliver something under a tight deadline. How did you decide what to cut, what trade-offs did you make, and how did you keep stakeholders in the loop?

“I had a decent story ready but the prioritization piece tripped me up a bit.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Amazon software engineer interview that centered almost entirely on one deep open-source question. Felt more like a design debrief than a standard behavioral round, which I wasn't expecting.
  • Walk me through a meaningful open-source contribution you made: the project's purpose, your specific role, the design and implementation decisions you made, how you worked with the community through issues and pull requests, and what measurable impact it had. Also cover how you handled follow-up maintenance and ongoing community interactions.

“This question is deceptively wide.”

Amazon SWE coding round, one algorithmic problem on array manipulation. Pretty clean question once you see the pattern, but I spent too long trying to think of something clever before realizing the greedy insight was right there.
  • You're given an array of server computational powers. In a single operation, you can choose any contiguous subarray and add some non-negative value to every element in it. What's the minimum total sum of all added values needed to make the array non-decreasing?

“I kept overthinking this.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Jun 2026
Amazon SWE coding round, one question the whole time: build a HashMap from scratch with no standard library help. Straightforward on paper but the implementation details add up fast.
  • Design and implement a simplified HashMap from scratch, without using any built-in hash containers. It needs to support put, get, and remove operations with average O(1) time complexity.

“My first instinct was to reach for a big array indexed by key and just store values directly, which technically works given the key range is bounded up to a million.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jun 2026
Behavioral round at Amazon for a program manager role. Just the one question from what I remember, classic leadership principle territory.
  • Describe a time you stayed energized and committed to an idea or project when the people around you weren't buying into it.

“I had a decent story for this but I rambled too much on the setup and ran out of time before I got to the actual outcome.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Online Assessment (OA)

Jun 2026
Amazon OA for a SWE role. One problem, string manipulation with some security flavor baked in. The problem statement was dense and I spent way too long just parsing what 'irrecoverable' even meant before writing a single line.
  • Given a password string and an attack order permutation, a virus replaces characters with a special character one per second following the permutation. A password becomes irrecoverable when the number of substrings containing at least one corrupted character reaches or exceeds a given threshold m. Find the minimum time (in seconds) after which the password becomes irrecoverable.

“The problem description was a wall of text and the example image they referenced was blurry so I genuinely wasn't sure what the corrupted character was supposed to be.”

Amazon·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Amazon SWE coding round, one question the whole time: a playlist generator with a no-repeat constraint. Pretty focused session, nothing behavioral, just straight into the problem.
  • Design a playlist class that plays a random song each time it's called, but guarantees no song repeats within the last N plays. For example, given songs ['A', 'B', 'C', 'D'] and N=2, no song played should appear again until at least 2 other songs have played since.

“I went with a queue to track the recent N songs and a set for O(1) lookup, then just kept resampling until I got a valid pick.”

Amazon·Data Analyst·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Amazon SQL/analytics question, pretty much just one problem about finding top customers per year. Short and uneventful.
  • Given a table of customer orders, write a query to find the top customer (by total order value or count) for each year.

“Pretty standard window function problem.”

Amazon·Technical Program Manager·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
TPM loop at Amazon, just the one question from what I can tell. Nothing too wild but it's the kind of question that sounds straightforward until you're actually in it.
  • How would you manage an API migration where the customers themselves have to do development work on their end?

“This one tripped me up a bit because my first instinct was to go full project plan mode, timelines and dependencies and whatnot.”
