Apple·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Apple SWE system design round, one question about auth migration. Pretty open-ended, no hints on scope or constraints until I asked.
  • How would you design a migration plan to move from an existing authentication system to a new one?

“I jumped straight into token formats and OAuth flows before even asking what was wrong with the current system.”

Had a technical phone screen for an ML Engineer role at Apple that went pretty deep into computer vision architecture. One meaty question about UNet took up most of the time, and I think I held my own but definitely rambled in spots.
  • Walk me through the UNet architecture in detail, including how its components interact, why it performs well on segmentation tasks, and what loss functions or training strategies you'd apply.

“This is a meaty question and I probably over-explained the encoder side before they even asked about skip connections.”

Apple ML Engineer interview with a coding round that was pretty much what you'd expect if you've done any leetcode prep. One algorithmic question, classic backtracking territory.
  • Given an array of distinct integers, return all possible permutations of those integers.

“Knew this one cold so I jumped straight to backtracking with a visited set.”

Apple coding screen, one question, merge two sorted linked lists. Pretty standard stuff but worth writing up since the details matter more than people think.
  • Given two sorted linked lists, merge them into a single sorted linked list by splicing together the nodes from both lists.

“Classic problem, I knew it, but I fumbled a bit on the in-place splicing part.”

Apple interview, one question about explaining stats concepts to a non-technical audience. Pretty short interaction, not much else to go on.
  • How would you explain a confidence interval to someone without a statistics background?

“I fumbled this more than I expected.”

Apple SWE interview with a classic LRU cache design problem. Not the hardest thing I've ever been asked, but the O(1) constraint is where people trip up if they haven't seen it before.
  • Design an LRU cache class supporting get and put operations, both running in O(1) average time, with a fixed capacity that evicts the least recently used entry when full.

“I knew the answer because I'd drilled this one before, but I still fumbled explaining WHY a doubly linked list over a singly linked list.”

Apple system design round, one massive question that basically asked you to redesign a fintech product from scratch. The scope was brutal and I'm not sure I covered even half of it well.
  • You're running a monolithic digital wallet and P2P payments app. Walk through how you'd migrate it to microservices, covering service boundaries, data ownership, API design, cross-service transaction patterns, consistency, compliance, observability, and rollout strategy. Include a phased plan, key risks, and how you'd measure success.

“This question is basically five questions duct-taped together.”

Apple·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Apple product interview, just one question but it carried the whole session. Pretty open-ended and I think I undersold myself.
  • Walk me through an interesting product you built.

“I picked something I thought was technically impressive but looking back it probably didn't land as a product story.”

Apple SWE interview with a Roman numerals conversion problem. Pretty classic coding question, nothing too wild, but the edge cases around the subtractive notation are where things get interesting.
  • Given a valid Roman numeral string, write a function that converts it to its integer equivalent.

“My first instinct was just to map each character to its value and sum them up, which works for like half the cases.”

PM interview at Apple with one behavioral/product sense question about personal product preferences. Short and a bit odd, not what I expected.
  • What is a non-tech product you use regularly and find yourself drawn to?

“Blanked for a second because I kept wanting to name something with a screen.”
