Apr 2026
Google product design interview, one question about designing an inflight entertainment system. Pretty open-ended, not much else to go on.
  • Design an inflight entertainment system.

“Spent the first couple minutes just trying to figure out who the user even is.”

Google ML engineer interview with a graph algorithms problem. Nothing too wild but it required you to actually think through the dependency structure carefully rather than just pattern-match to a known algorithm.
  • Given a directed acyclic graph where each node has a duration, find the minimum total time needed to complete all tasks, where a task can only begin once all its dependencies finish.

“The key realization is that this reduces to finding the longest path through the DAG, which took me a minute to see.”

Google SWE coding round, one problem about calculating total file system size from a nested object structure. Pretty straightforward recursion but the follow-up on optimization is where it gets interesting.
  • You're given a nested object representing a file system. Each object has a class (either 'file' or 'directory'), a size if it's a file, and a contains list if it's a directory. Write a function that returns the total size of the entire structure.
  • How would you optimize the computation speed for this file system size calculation?

“Recursion is pretty obvious once you see the structure, so I got through the core solution without too much trouble.”

Google PM interview with one product sense question that sounds deceptively simple until you're actually in the room trying to explain a social media platform to someone who doesn't own a smartphone.
  • How would you explain what Twitter is and why someone would use it, to a person with no background in technology or social media?

“I went straight for an analogy about a public bulletin board and it kind of worked but I could tell I was overcomplicating the 'why bother' part.”

Google PM interview, product sense round. One question, mobile app focus, pretty open-ended. Left feeling like I could've pushed my answer a lot further than I did.
  • Pick a mobile app. How would you increase user engagement by 100x?

“I picked a messaging app thinking it'd be easier to brainstorm around, but the 100x framing kind of broke my usual approach.”

Google PM interview with one of those abstract creative questions that makes you wonder if you prepped for the wrong thing entirely.
  • If you could float on water like a boat, what would you be and why?

“I stared at this for a second and genuinely thought I misread it.”

Google SWE coding round with a board/token puzzle that's deceptively tricky once you start thinking about blocking conditions and greedy vs. optimal ordering. Not a lot of context shared beyond the problem itself.
  • You have a 1D board of cells containing tokens, coins, and empty spaces. Each turn you move one token exactly 3 cells to the right, collecting any coin it lands on. A token can't jump over or land on another token, and can't go off the board. What's the maximum number of coins you can collect across all tokens?

“This one sat me down for a minute.”

PM product sense question at Google, just the one question about building a lost belongings finder. Pretty open-ended and I had to figure out the scope on my own.
  • If Google were to enter the market for helping people find lost belongings, what should the product look like and should it even be built?

“The 'should it be built' part is what tripped me up.”

Interviewed at Google for a product strategy role and got hit with a classic market entry case about Samsung and gaming consoles. Not a lot of context given upfront, which made it tricky to anchor the answer.
  • Should Samsung enter the gaming console market?

“I spent the first minute just trying to figure out what angle they wanted.”

Google PM interview question about tracking metrics for a Pixel camera feature that pushes photos to Google Photos. Pretty focused, just the one question from what I can tell, but it's the kind of thing that spirals fast if you don't have a structure ready.
  • You're the PM for a Pixel phone feature that lets users upload photos directly to Google Photos. What metrics would you track?

“I'd probably start with adoption and then work outward.”
