Google·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

Jul 2026
Google Data Scientist technical screen, one meaty coding problem that sat right at the intersection of algorithms and applied ML/data work. The question looked like a clean implementation task on the surface but had enough edge cases to keep you honest.
  • Implement a function that takes a discharge curve defined by (time, state-of-charge) checkpoints and a current SOC value, then returns how many minutes remain until the battery hits 0%. You need to handle charging segments, duplicate SOC values, missing zero-SOC endpoints via extrapolation, and do it in O(n) time with O(1) extra space. Also explain why the function stays monotone and numerically stable.

“This one took me longer to parse than I expected.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Jul 2026
Four rounds at Google for a software engineer role. Coding and behavioral screens went well per recruiter feedback, and the two onsite rounds were both graph-heavy. Came out of it unsure whether the bugs left in R3 would sink the whole thing.
  • Solve a difficult graph problem, deriving the optimal approach from scratch.
  • Solve a graph problem requiring a priority queue optimization, and analyze time and space complexity.

“Got stuck pretty bad at the start.”

Google·Business Analyst·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Got a case question at Google about estimating productivity loss during the holidays at a mid-sized company. Pretty classic estimation problem but it has more moving parts than it looks.
  • Estimate the productivity loss at a medium-sized company during the holiday season.

“I started by trying to define 'medium-sized' and 'holiday season' before jumping in, which felt right in the moment.”

Did a round 1 for a Software Engineer role at Google last month, mixed behavioral and coding. The BQ side covered a few different areas including AI ethics, which I wasn't fully expecting.
  • What are your thoughts on the ethical considerations around AI development and deployment?
  • How would you go about organizing team activities or events to build cohesion?
  • Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a teammate and how you resolved it.

“This one surprised me a bit.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jul 2026
Behavioral round at Google, just one question but they really sat with it. The conflict resolution angle felt like they were probing for self-awareness as much as anything else.
  • Describe a situation where two of your teammates were in conflict. How did you notice it, what did you do about it, and how did things turn out? Looking back, what would you change?

“The retrospective part tripped me up more than I expected.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

Jul 2026
Behavioral round at Google with a question about feedback quality. Pretty conceptual for a single question, but it pushed me to think about real examples rather than just abstract principles.
  • What separates effective feedback from ineffective feedback? Walk through a specific example of feedback you gave or received and explain what made it work or fail.

“I went with an example of feedback I received that I initially ignored, which I thought was a more interesting angle than the obvious 'here's great feedback I gave someone' story.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Multi Round

Jul 2026
Got a recruiter reach out for a Forward Deployed Engineer role at Google, did a ~35 min screening call, and now I'm prepping for two back-to-back onsite rounds: an RRK round focused on Agentic AI system design and a Python coding round. Posting here because I have no idea what to expect from either and the recruiter wasn't super specific.
  • What does the Role Related Knowledge (RRK) round look like for this role, and how should someone prepare for a system design round with an Agentic AI focus?
  • Are the coding problems in this round competitive programming style, and what difficulty level should candidates expect?

“The recruiter said 'system design but with focus on Agentic AI' which is...”

Google·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Jul 2026
Interviewed for a PMM role at Google, just the one question about career pride. Not much to go on but it stuck with me.
  • What are you most proud of in your career?

“Blanked for a second because it sounds easy but then you realize you have like 15 things and none of them feel right to say out loud.”

Google·Software Engineer·Hiring Manager Screen

Interviewed for an account manager role at Google. One question, behavioral, focused on sales experience and relationship management. Pretty standard for this type of role but it still made me think harder than I expected.
  • Walk me through the largest deal you've closed. What was your process and how did you handle the stakeholder relationships involved?

“I had a deal ready to talk about but fumbled the stakeholder part.”

Got a Google coding round with a sliding window problem that had a twist. Not your standard max/min window setup, which threw me a bit.
  • Given an array of numbers, a window size w, and an integer k, slide the window across the array one step at a time. For each window position, remove the k largest elements and return the average of the remaining w minus k elements. Do this efficiently, not brute force.

“My first instinct was just sorting each window, which is obviously too slow and I knew it while saying it out loud.”
