Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Google business analyst interview with a single market sizing question. Pretty standard case format but the SF-specific angle made it trickier than I expected.
  • Estimate the total addressable market for electric scooters in San Francisco.

“I went population-first, broke SF into commuter segments by distance, then tried to back into a dollar figure using average ride frequency and pricing.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Google PM interview, one question about content moderation on a social platform. Pretty open-ended and I spent more time than I'd like to admit just trying to scope it down.
  • How would you prevent harmful or inappropriate content from being uploaded to a social media platform?

“My first instinct was to jump straight to ML classifiers and I had to stop myself because that's just the engineering answer, not the PM answer.”

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Got a string manipulation problem at Google, pretty straightforward premise but the edge cases tripped me up a bit.
  • Given two strings, write a function that returns true if you can change exactly 2 characters in the first string to make it equal to the second string, and false otherwise.

“Seemed simple at first glance.”

Google·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Behavioral round at Google for a software engineer role. Just the one question from what I can tell, pretty standard failure story prompt.
  • Tell me about a time you failed at something.

“I had a story prepped but the second I started telling it I could feel it going flat.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Google product management interview focused on a storage estimation problem for Google Photos tied to the Pixel 3 launch. Pretty classic PM case but with a strategic layer bolted on that I wasn't fully ready for.
  • How would you estimate the cost of offering free full-resolution photo storage to Pixel 3 buyers over a three-year period?
  • What is the strategic value to Google of bundling free unlimited photo storage with Pixel hardware?

“I started with device sales projections and worked down to average photo library size per user, which felt right.”

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Quick Google data engineer screen, basically just one database fundamentals question. Nothing too wild but it's the kind of thing that trips you up if you haven't reviewed the basics recently.
  • What are the different types of indexes available in a relational database?

“Went through the usual suspects: B-tree, hash, composite, partial.”

Google·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Interviewed at Google for a software engineering role and got a cipher/decryption style coding problem. Not a lot of context to share but it was a technical phone screen format.
  • Given an encrypted message and a shift key, decrypt the message by reversing the character substitution.

“Classic Caesar cipher type problem.”

Google·Technical Program Manager·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
TPM interview at Google with a system design question that starts deceptively simple and then gets very real very fast once they ask you to think at Google scale.
  • Google wants to reward whoever submits its 5 trillionth search query with a prize. How would you design this?
  • Now design that same solution technically, keeping Google's actual query volume and infrastructure in mind.

“My first instinct was to just say 'keep a counter somewhere' which, yeah, not great.”

May 2026
Interviewed for a security engineer role at Google, got asked about risk categorization. Short and to the point, but the question has more depth than it looks.
  • How do you categorize risk?

“Went with the classic likelihood-times-impact framing and then broke it into buckets like operational, compliance, reputational.”

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Prepped for a Google PM role and got asked what feels like a classic but somehow still trips people up.
  • What are the top five traits of a great product manager?

“I listed things like curiosity and communication and immediately felt like I was reciting a LinkedIn post.”
