FAANG / Big Tech

Most of these Apple write-ups come from Software Engineers (212), then Machine Learning Engineers (85) and Data Scientists (32). The most reported rounds are the technical phone screen (217), the system design round (48), the product sense round (29) and the behavioral / leadership round (22).

Apple·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jun 2026
Apple system design round for a software engineering role. One question, pretty open-ended, and I spent the first few minutes just trying to figure out what they actually wanted me to focus on.
  • Design an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

“I jumped straight into the data model which was probably the wrong call.”

Apple ML engineer screen, one meaty technical question about building an object detection system. Nothing too surprising on the surface but it went deeper than I expected.
  • How would you design an object detection system to identify and locate flowers in images?

“Started with the obvious stuff, CNNs, anchor boxes, two-stage vs single-stage detectors.”

Apple·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Apple PM interview with a single product design question about improving the Apple Watch. Short and focused, but don't let the simplicity fool you.
  • How would you improve the Apple Watch?

“Classic Apple product question and I still fumbled the opening.”

Apple BA interview, one round, one question about a dashboard I'd built. Pretty conversational but I felt like I was rambling by the end.
  • Walk me through a dashboard you built and explain the decisions behind it.

“I picked a sales funnel dashboard I'd built a while back, which in hindsight was probably too old to speak to confidently.”

Apple·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Jun 2026
Apple coding round, pretty focused on arrays and prefix sums. Nothing too wild but the follow-ups on edge cases pushed me more than I expected.
  • Given an integer array and a target value k, find all contiguous subarrays whose sum equals k. How would you approach this efficiently?
  • Do negative numbers or zeros in the array break your approach? How does that affect the solution?
  • How would you extend this solution to handle a streaming input where you can't store the full array?

“I got the prefix sum approach pretty quickly and coded it up with a hash map to hit O(n).”

Apple·Frontend Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Apple frontend screen, one meaty conceptual question about how React's virtual DOM actually works under the hood. Not a coding round, more of a "do you understand what's happening" conversation.
  • Can you explain how the virtual DOM works and why it exists?

“I knew the surface answer but fumbled a bit when they pushed on trade-offs.”

Apple MLE interview with a binary search coding problem. Nothing too wild but the constraint range on h made it easy to overthink the search bounds.
  • Given n piles of bananas and h hours before guards return, find the minimum eating speed k (bananas per hour) such that all piles are finished in time. Each hour you eat from one pile only, and if the pile has fewer than k bananas you just finish it.

“Classic binary search on the answer.”

Apple frontend interview, got asked about browser rendering internals. Not a long process from what I can tell, just a focused technical screen.
  • Can you walk through the Critical Rendering Path and explain how a browser goes from raw HTML to pixels on screen?

“I knew the general shape of this: DOM, CSSOM, render tree, layout, paint.”

Apple·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jun 2026
Apple Data Engineer interview with a tree serialization problem. Pretty classic but the open-ended nature of it threw me a bit since there's no single right answer and I kept second-guessing my approach.
  • Design and implement a Codec class that can serialize a binary tree into a string and deserialize that string back into the original tree structure.

“I went with a preorder traversal using null markers for missing nodes, which worked, but I spent way too long debating BFS vs DFS in my head before committing.”

Apple·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jun 2026
Got a classic estimation question at Apple, the kind where there's no right answer but they're clearly watching how you think out loud.
  • Estimate the total weight of the Empire State Building.

“I froze for a second because my first instinct was to think about the steel frame, but then I realized I had no idea how to anchor that number.”
