FAANG / Big Tech

Most of these Google write-ups come from Software Engineers (1,167), then Product Managers (686) and Data Scientists (125). The most reported rounds are the product sense round (667), the technical phone screen (660), the behavioral / leadership round (252) and the onsite coding round (214).

Google·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Interviewed for a PM role at Google and got a product integration question that seemed broad at first but actually had a lot of layers once I started talking through it.
  • What factors do you consider when deciding how to integrate two different products or platforms?

“I started rattling off technical stuff like APIs and data compatibility, then realized mid-sentence I was probably missing the point.”

Google SWE coding round with a graph reachability problem. The bomb chain reaction question is a classic BFS/DFS setup dressed up in a fun scenario, and the squared distance trick is the thing that'll save you if you remember it.
  • Given n bombs each with a position and explosion radius, if detonating bomb i triggers any bomb j within its radius (and those can trigger further bombs), what is the maximum number of bombs you can detonate by choosing exactly one bomb to start?

“Build a directed graph where there's an edge from i to j if j falls within i's blast radius, then run BFS or DFS from each node and track the max reachable count.”

Interviewed for a data engineer role at Google and got a question around fraudulent transaction detection. Not much else to report, it was a single technical problem and I had to think through it on the spot.
  • How would you design a system or pipeline to detect fraudulent transactions?

“I went straight into talking about flagging anomalies in transaction volume and velocity, which felt right at the time.”

Google PM interview for YouTube Music, one product strategy question about growing paid subscribers. Pretty open-ended, no hints on scope or framing.
  • If you were the PM for YouTube Music, how would you grow the number of paid subscribers?

“I went straight to conversion and retention levers without stopping to define who the current users even are.”

May 2026
Google PM interview, one product design question about a gardening app. Pretty open-ended, which sounds fun until you're actually sitting there trying to figure out where to start.
  • Design an app for gardening.

“I spent probably too long on the user segmentation part, trying to cover everyone from casual balcony herb growers to serious backyard vegetable people.”

Google data science or analytics interview, one question about experimentation design. Not a lot of context to go on but the question itself is a solid one that trips people up if they haven't thought about it carefully.
  • How do you handle network effects when running an A/B test?

“This is the kind of question where saying 'just randomly split users' is the wrong answer and you know it the second you say it out loud.”

Got a product design question at Google that sounds deceptively simple but has a lot of layers once you actually sit with it.
  • Design a spice rack for someone who is blind.

“My first instinct was to jump straight into tactile labels and braille, which felt obvious and kind of shallow.”

PM interview at Google with a product strategy question about the Pixel. Just the one question from what I can tell, but it's the kind that spirals fast if you don't have a clear framework going in.
  • If you were tasked with making the Pixel the best smartphone on the market, what three areas would you prioritize and why?

“I went straight to camera quality, software integration, and battery life.”

Google SWE coding round with a matching problem that looked like a simple greedy but had a sneaky secondary objective. Not the hardest thing I've done but I fumbled the optimization part longer than I'd like to admit.
  • You have N people and M bubble-tea shops on a 1D number line. Each shop can serve at most one person and each person can receive at most one delivery. A delivery is only valid if the distance between the person and shop is at most 5. First maximize the number of completed deliveries, then among all ways to do that, minimize the total distance. How do you approach this?

“I got the greedy intuition pretty fast, sort both arrays and use two pointers to match greedily within the distance constraint.”

Google phone screen for a software engineering role. The bar was higher than I expected for a phone screen, lots of focus on clean OOP design and trade-off reasoning, not just getting to a working solution.
  • Design and implement a text editor or bookkeeping system, with attention to clean OOP design, data structure trade-offs including memory usage, and accurate time/space complexity analysis.

“The implementation part felt manageable but they pushed hard on why I chose the data structures I did, specifically around memory.”
