Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Meta PM interview with a single experimentation question. Pretty standard for the role but it still made me think harder than I expected.
  • Describe a situation where running an A/B test would be the right approach.

“I went with a pretty textbook scenario about testing a UI change on a high-traffic surface and measuring click-through.”

Meta coding screen, got a string manipulation problem that looked deceptively simple at first glance. The stack-based approach was the whole point and they wanted O(n) explicitly.
  • Given a string, repeatedly remove any group of two or more consecutive identical characters until no such groups remain. Return the final string. Solve it in a single pass using a stack of (char, count) pairs in O(n) time and O(n) space.

“The naive approach is obvious: scan, remove runs, repeat.”

Meta SWE interview with a matrix manipulation problem that looked straightforward until I actually thought about the overlap case. Tricky in-place constraint with no extra memory allowed.
  • Given a 2D matrix, define two equally-sized rectangular regions that may partially overlap. Copy the contents of one region into the other entirely in-place, using no additional memory. Walk through your approach and implement it.

“The no-extra-memory part is what tripped me up.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Interviewed at Meta, got hit with a pretty standard behavioral question about areas where I've received critical feedback. Not much else to report from the content itself.
  • Which aspects of your work have you most frequently received critical or constructive feedback on?

“Classic weakness-adjacent question.”

Meta·Machine Learning Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

One question, basically no context. Meta ML engineer screen that left me with more questions about the process than about my own experience.
  • Walk me through your machine learning experience.

“Broad opener that sounds easy until you realize you have no idea what level of depth they want.”

Meta PM interview with a product metrics question focused on FB Audio Room. Pretty standard product sense round but the question had enough surface area to go in a lot of directions, which was both good and bad.
  • You're the PM for Facebook Audio Rooms. What metrics would you track to measure success?

“I went broad first, which I think was a mistake.”

Meta·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Interviewed for a Data Scientist role at Meta and got hit with a deep-dive on LASSO that went way beyond 'L1 adds sparsity.' Seven sub-parts, all in one question. It felt more like a grad school oral exam than a job interview.
  • Walk me through why LASSO performs feature selection. Cover the intuition behind L1 vs L2 penalties, the geometry of the constraint region, the optimality conditions for a coefficient going to zero, how correlated predictors affect which features get selected, why you need to standardize inputs, how you pick lambda and what it does to bias and variance, and when you'd use Elastic Net instead.

“This was one question.”

Meta PM interview question for Marketplace, classic metrics drop scenario. Not much context on how it went but the question itself is pretty meaty.
  • You're the PM for Facebook Marketplace and come back from a 10-day vacation to discover traffic has dropped 10%. Walk through how you'd handle it.

“The vacation framing is doing a lot of work here.”

Meta·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Meta Data Scientist interview, technical round focused on SQL window functions and revenue forecasting. The question was more involved than it looked on the surface, mixing rolling aggregations with YoY math and then a projection step at the end.
  • Given a table with daily ad revenue, compute a 30-day rolling sum for every calendar day, then calculate the year-over-year percentage change for each day based on that rolling sum. Using the most recent YoY% figure, project total revenue for the next full calendar year.

“Three parts and I only really nailed the first one cleanly.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

Meta SWE coding round, pretty focused on arrays and selection algorithms. One main problem but the follow-up is where things got interesting.
  • Given an unsorted array and an integer k, find the k-th largest element. What's your approach, and how would you handle it if the data is too large to fit in memory?

“Got the Quick Select part out reasonably well, average O(n) and all that.”
