Meta SWE interview with a graph-based coding question. Pretty standard algorithmic stuff but the follow-up had some real teeth to it.
  • Given a sorted array of strings in an unknown alien alphabet, determine a valid character ordering for that alphabet. Return an empty string if no valid ordering exists (e.g. due to a cycle).

“The core insight is building a directed graph from adjacent word comparisons and running topological sort.”

Meta PM interview, single question about designing Facebook's birthday feature from zero. Pretty open-ended, which sounds fun until you're actually in it.
  • You're the PM for Facebook birthdays before any birthday features exist. How would you design and build that experience from scratch?

“The scope of this one is deceptively wide.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Behavioral round at Meta for a software engineer role. Two questions, both pretty standard conflict and learning-under-pressure territory. Nothing that should surprise anyone who's done a few of these.
  • Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a teammate or another team. What happened and how did you resolve it?
  • Describe a situation where you had to pick up something new, like a tool, technology, or domain, under time pressure. How did you handle it and what came out of it?

“I had a decent story ready but rambled a bit on the resolution part.”

Meta Data Scientist SQL round, heavy on session analytics and advertiser revenue stuff. A lot of window functions and ratio calculations back to back, which felt relentless by the end.
  • Using yesterday's session data, compute the average session duration broken down by app.
  • Define a performance metric for each app, calculate it from the session data, and justify which app performs best.
  • For each day and app, calculate the bounce rate defined as a user switching to another app and then returning to the original one.
  • For each ad creation source, report the daily revenue figures for the past month.
  • Identify the top 10 least-active advertisers based on the ads data and list the countries they are from.
  • For each ad creation source, calculate the ratio of advertisers spending above 1000 this year compared to last year.
  • How would you prove that a revenue increase from one ad creation source is actually caused by decreases in other sources, rather than being independent growth?

“Straightforward on the surface.”

Meta DS interview with a meaty experimentation question that had me second-guessing my stats knowledge the whole time. The question was layered enough that I kept thinking I'd answered it and then realizing there was another part.
  • An experiment shows a +1.2pp overall conversion lift, but the segment-level effects are -0.5pp for new users and +2.0pp for returning users. Walk through how a shift in segment mix could produce this result, propose a stratified estimator that guards against aggregation bias, and specify an interaction test plus a decision rule for when heterogeneity is large enough to matter.

“This is basically Simpson's paradox dressed up in an A/B testing costume and I did not immediately recognize it as such, which was embarrassing in retrospect.”

Meta PM interview with a single product design question around virtual travel. Not a lot of context to go on, but it's the kind of open-ended prompt that can go sideways fast if you don't anchor on a user quickly.
  • Design a virtual travel product.

“Wide open prompt and I spent probably too long on the 'what is virtual travel' part instead of just picking a user and running with it.”

Meta MLE interview with a tree problem that looked simple but had a few ways to approach it. Nothing too crazy but you need to know your traversal options cold.
  • Given the root of a binary tree, return the values of all nodes visible from the right side, ordered top to bottom.

“Two paths here and I fumbled around deciding which to go with.”

Meta interview, one question about explaining linear regression to a technical audience. Short and focused, nothing too wild.
  • How would you explain linear regression to a technical stakeholder?

“Tricky because 'technical stakeholder' is vague.”

PM interview at Meta, one question about the Reels recommendation engine. Not much context on the round but felt like a product strategy screen.
  • What goals would you set for the Reels recommendation engine?

“I went straight to engagement metrics and kind of painted myself into a corner.”

Meta SWE coding round, one question on sliding window duplicate detection. Pretty straightforward on the surface but the edge cases around the boundary condition tripped me up a bit.
  • Given an unsorted integer array, a window size K, and a value T, determine whether any two distinct indices i and j exist such that the array values at those indices are equal and the distance between the indices is at most K.

“I went straight for a hashmap to track last-seen indices and slid a window of size K across the array.”
