Large Enterprises

Most of these Robinhood write-ups come from Software Engineers (50), then Product Managers (17) and Data Scientists (11). The most reported rounds are the technical phone screen (37), the system design round (22), the product sense round (9) and the behavioral / leadership round (6).

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Onsite - Coding / Algorithms

May 2026
Security-focused engineering round at Robinhood where the classic LRU cache problem gets a lot more interesting once they start asking about concurrent clients and malicious actors. Not your typical LC grind session.
  • Implement an LRU cache with O(1) get and put operations using a doubly-linked list and hash map.
  • Your LRU cache is shared across many concurrent clients. How do you reason about its behavior under high concurrency, and what locking strategy would you use?
  • A malicious client keeps inserting unique keys to thrash the cache. How would you defend against that?
  • How would you make the cache authorization-aware so that one user cannot read another user's cached data?

“I've done this problem enough times that the base implementation felt automatic.”

Robinhood·Data Scientist·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Robinhood data scientist interview with a SQL and Python focus, all centered on a payments transaction schema. Nothing too wild but the window function follow-up was a step up from what I expected in terms of complexity.
  • Using a users table and a transactions table, write a SQL query that joins them and returns each user's name alongside their total amount sent and total amount received.
  • Extend your previous SQL query to include a running cumulative sum of amount_sent per sender, ordered by transaction_id, using a window function.
  • Given a transactions dataframe in Python, produce two Series showing the top 5 user IDs by number of transactions sent and the top 5 by number of transactions received, accounting for the fact that negative amounts reverse the direction of money flow.

“Pretty standard aggregation question.”

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
System design round at Robinhood for a software engineer role, focused entirely on building a job scheduler with SLA tracking. Pretty deep dive, they pushed hard on failure handling and observability which I wasn't fully prepped for.
  • Design a job scheduler that handles jobs of a specific type, each with an SLA deadline. The system must detect timeouts, report errors, mark failed jobs, and expose logs for operators to inspect.
  • How would you handle worker crashes and ensure job state durability across failures?
  • What happens when a downstream service the workers depend on becomes unavailable? How does that affect your design?
  • How would you approach observability for this system, including metrics, alerting, and log aggregation?

“This was the whole interview basically.”

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Robinhood SWE interview with a graph propagation problem. Not the hardest thing I've seen but the details trip you up if you're not careful with topological ordering.
  • Given a directed acyclic graph where one entry node is triggered once and each triggered node triggers all its outgoing neighbors, compute the total trigger count for every node in the graph.

“The example they gave made it look easy until D showed up with two parents and I realized you can't just do a simple BFS count.”

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
System design round at Robinhood for a software engineering role. The whole thing was one big question about building a stock price backend, but it branched into enough sub-topics that it felt like four conversations crammed into one session.
  • Design the backend for a Robinhood-style mobile app that streams live stock prices and serves historical charts at multiple time ranges.
  • How would you handle failures in the upstream market data feed so that live prices stay available to users?
  • For historical price charts, would you use a specialized time-series database or a general-purpose database with pre-aggregated rollups? Walk through your reasoning.
  • Should the app use WebSockets or server-sent events for pushing live stock prices to the client, and what are the trade-offs?

“The scope of this question is deceptively wide.”

Robinhood·Frontend Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Robinhood frontend interview that went deeper into system design than I expected. The whole session was basically one big design problem with follow-ups stacked on top of each other.
  • Design and implement a calendar system like Google Calendar. It should support creating events with start and end times, querying events for a specific day or date range, detecting overlapping event conflicts, and ideally recurring events, invitations, and reminders. What data structures would you use and what are the complexity tradeoffs?

“I went with a sorted map of intervals first because it felt more approachable to explain, then they pushed me on why not an interval tree.”

Robinhood·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
PM interview at Robinhood with a single strategy question about disrupting the mortgage industry. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't expecting from a fintech PM screen.
  • If Robinhood were to enter the mortgage industry, how would you approach disrupting it?

“I went straight to the customer angle, talking about how mortgages are opaque and painful for first-time buyers, and how Robinhood's whole brand is democratizing finance.”

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Robinhood system design round for a software engineer role, focused entirely on building a secure, Robinhood-style trading app on AWS. Two main areas: user profile management and stock quote lookup. Heavy emphasis on security and compliance which I wasn't fully expecting.
  • Design the user profile management system for a regulated financial app, covering sign-up, authentication, MFA, PII storage, profile updates, and account recovery.
  • How would you design the stock quote and symbol search feature to handle high read throughput with low latency and near-real-time data freshness?
  • Walk through the security model for this application: encryption, secrets management, least privilege access, WAF, and rate limiting.
  • How would you ensure auditability and compliance for profile changes and data access in a regulated environment?
  • Describe your approach to high availability and disaster recovery for this system across multiple availability zones or regions.

“I started with auth flows which felt natural, but the interviewer kept pushing on PII storage specifically.”

Robinhood·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

May 2026
Robinhood software engineer round focused on object-oriented design, specifically building a peer-to-peer money transfer system from scratch. More design-heavy than I expected for a coding round, and the extension questions toward the end pushed into territory I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Design and implement a peer-to-peer money transfer and gifting system between friends. Include user account creation, sending money, transaction history, and balance queries. Walk through your class decomposition and encapsulation decisions.
  • How would you handle error cases like insufficient funds or sending money to a user that doesn't exist?
  • How would you extend this design to support multiple currencies or transaction fees?

“I started with User and Transaction classes and felt okay about that, but the encapsulation part tripped me up a bit.”

Robinhood·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Interviewed for a PM role at Robinhood. One question but it was the kind that sounds deceptively simple until you're actually in it.
  • How do you decide when to invest in foundational engineering work versus shipping new features?

“I rambled a bit.”
