Meta·Data Scientist·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
Meta DS interview with a brutal product deep-dive that basically asked you to reconstruct your entire career highlight reel with receipts. One question, but it had six sub-parts and felt like a full loop compressed into a single prompt.
  • Walk me through the most impactful product you owned end-to-end, covering how you framed the problem and set target metrics, which alternatives you rejected and why, what your riskiest assumption was and how you tested it, the exact impact you achieved, how you recovered from a major setback, what changed in the org afterward, and what you'd do differently if you had to ship it again with half the team.

“This question is essentially six questions wearing a trench coat.”

Meta software engineer coding round, one tree problem the whole session. Pretty standard DFS territory but there's enough edge cases to trip you up if you're not careful.
  • Given the root of a binary tree where nodes can hold negative values, return a list of all root-to-leaf path sums.

“Spent the first minute overcomplicating it in my head.”

Meta SWE onsite coding round, one problem with a follow-up that caught me a little off guard. The core question was straightforward BST stuff but the paired design extension pushed things into different territory.
  • Given the root of a binary search tree and a range [low, high], return the sum of all node values that fall within that range.
  • Follow-up: design a streaming interface that returns the product of the last K values in a sequence, handling the case where a zero appears in the window.

“Went recursive, which was the right call under time pressure.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

May 2026
PM interview at Meta with a single product design question about space travel. Pretty open-ended and a bit wild honestly, not the kind of prompt you can prep for with a standard framework.
  • Design a Meta product for space travel.

“I blanked for a solid few seconds because my brain kept trying to anchor it to existing Meta products and none of them obviously map to space.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

May 2026
Meta system design round focused entirely on one big question about live comments at massive scale. The depth they expected was pretty intense, covering everything from connection protocols to back-pressure handling.
  • Design a live comments system for a high-traffic post (think a celebrity's page) where new comments need to appear in near-real-time for millions of concurrent viewers. Walk through the client connection model, pub/sub fan-out, comment ordering and deduplication, the write and read paths, back-pressure handling, and how you'd scale to millions of simultaneous viewers on a single post.

“This is basically one giant question with like seven sub-questions baked in.”

Meta PM interview focused entirely on Instagram Reels as a product strategy case. One big multi-part question covering rationale, investment decisions, and metrics. Pretty intense for a single prompt.
  • You're a PM on Instagram Reels. Why did Meta invest in this product, should they continue investing, and what goals and metrics would you prioritize over the next 12 months?

“This is a lot packed into one question and I underestimated how much the 'should they invest more' part would trip me up.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Behavioral round at Meta for a software engineer role, just one question about working across teams. Pretty short session from the looks of it.
  • Tell me about a time you worked closely with people outside your immediate team to get something done.

“Standard cross-functional question, the kind you know is coming but still somehow underprepare for.”

Meta PM interview, got hit with a Facebook Groups launch strategy question. Pretty open-ended, which sounds freeing until you're actually sitting there trying to figure out where to even start.
  • You're the PM for Facebook Groups. Walk me through how you'd approach the product launch strategy.

“I started with user segmentation and worked toward distribution channels, but in hindsight I spent way too long on the 'who are we building for' part and barely had time to talk about success metrics or rollout phasing.”

Meta SWE coding round, one problem the whole time but they kept pushing for more optimal solutions. Felt like four interviews in one.
  • Given a list of strings, find the maximum number of strings you can select such that concatenating them produces no repeated characters across the whole result. Walk through progressively more optimized solutions.

“Started with backtracking, which felt fine, but they kept asking 'can you do better?' three more times.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - Behavioral / Leadership

May 2026
Behavioral round at Meta for a software engineer role. Three questions, all focused on influence, ownership, and how you handle things going sideways. Pretty standard for this type of screen but the follow-ups pushed harder than I expected.
  • Tell me about a time you and a stakeholder or teammate disagreed on what should be prioritized. How did you work through it?
  • Describe a real setback or failure in a project you worked on. What did you take away from it and did anything actually change because of it?
  • Walk me through a time you drove a technical or cross-functional initiative without having any formal authority over the people involved.

“I went into this one pretty confident and kind of rambled.”
