Meta·Software Engineer·Onsite - System Design / Architecture

Jul 2026
Meta system design round, one question about building a Q&A platform like Quora. Pretty open-ended and I spent way too long on the data model before the interviewer nudged me toward scale.
  • Design a question and answer website similar to Quora.

“I jumped straight into the feed ranking logic because it felt impressive, but that backfired.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jul 2026
Meta PM interview with a product design question about building a neighbor-to-neighbor borrowing and lending feature on Facebook. Pretty open-ended, which I wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Design a product solution that allows Facebook users to borrow and lend goods with their neighbors.

“I went straight to the feature list and the interviewer kind of just waited.”

Interviewed for a PMM role at Meta, just the one question from what I can tell. Pretty standard retention-type question but it still made me pause more than I expected.
  • What has kept you at your current company for the past five years?

“I fumbled this a bit.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Technical Phone Screen

Jul 2026
Meta data engineer phone screen, one algorithmic problem the whole time. Pretty focused session, they wanted code plus a real explanation of the sweep-line logic, not just a working solution.
  • Given a list of carpool trips where each trip has a passenger count, a start position, and an end position, implement a function that returns whether a vehicle with a fixed capacity can complete all trips without ever exceeding that capacity. The vehicle travels in one direction only. Aim for O(n log n) time and discuss what happens when multiple events fall on the same coordinate.

“I went straight to the sweep-line idea, which felt right, +passengers at start and -passengers at end, sort all events, scan through.”

Meta DS interview with a product analytics question about Story consumption differences between Instagram and Facebook. One question, fairly open-ended, the kind where you can go a lot of directions and that's both the appeal and the problem.
  • Instagram users consume more Stories than Facebook users. How would you investigate why?

“My first instinct was to jump straight to A/B tests but that's kind of backwards since you're diagnosing a gap that already exists, not testing a change.”

Jul 2026
SQL screen for a SWE role at Meta. Just the one question, pretty straightforward aggregation stuff, nothing that should trip you up if you've done any SQL before.
  • Given an impressions table with columns ad_id, timestamp, and user_id, write a SQL query that returns the total number of impressions per ad.

“Pretty much just a GROUP BY with a COUNT.”

Meta coding screen, pretty much just one algorithmic problem the whole time. Nothing flashy, but the question had more edge cases than I expected.
  • Given an array of integers, find and print all subarrays whose elements sum to zero.

“I jumped straight to brute force, which works but felt embarrassing in hindsight.”

Meta SWE coding round, one question on BSTs. Pretty focused session, nothing too wild, but the problem had a wrinkle that took me a minute to fully see.
  • Given a Binary Search Tree, find the length of the longest path (measured in number of nodes) where the node values form a strictly increasing sequence. The path only follows parent-child edges and doesn't need to pass through the root.

“My first instinct was to just do a DFS and track the current run length, resetting whenever the sequence broke.”

Meta·Software Engineer·Online Assessment (OA)

Jul 2026
Four coding problems in one Meta SWE session, ranging from a trivial string scan to a battery simulation that honestly made my head spin. The difficulty ramp was real and I was not ready for the last one.
  • Given a string of ASCII characters, compute the difference between the count of uppercase letters and the count of lowercase letters, ignoring everything else.
  • Given an array of non-negative integers, repeatedly find the leftmost nonzero element and subtract its value from consecutive elements to the right as long as they are nonzero and at least as large. Count how many such operations it takes to zero out the whole array.
  • You can only increase elements of an integer array. Find the minimum total cost to make the array either non-decreasing or non-increasing, where cost is the sum of all increments applied.
  • Simulate n batteries powering a phone. Each battery drains fully before being swapped, then recharges for a fixed time. The phone always picks the lowest-indexed available battery, and waits if none are ready. Given a time limit T, return how many total drain events occur within that window.

“Warmup question, basically.”

Meta·Product Manager·Onsite - Product Sense / Strategy

Jul 2026
PM interview at Meta, one question about measuring product success for a specific hardware product. Pretty lean on details but the question itself is a solid one to prep for.
  • How would you measure the success of Facebook Portal?

“This one trips people up because Portal sits in this weird space between hardware, social, and video calling.”
