Meta DS interview with a meaty SQL problem built around a custom visibility metric. The whole thing was one long multi-part question so there was no real break to collect your thoughts, you just had to keep going.
  • Write a SQL query using CTEs that computes a daily Shop Visibility Score for each shop over a 7-day window. The score is defined as: among sessions with at least one home_feed impression on a given date, what fraction of distinct sessions saw at least one impression from that shop ranked 5 or below on home_feed that same date. Return one row per date and shop with the score, numerator, and denominator.
  • From the SVS query results, identify the top 3 shops by 7-day average SVS. If there are ties, break them by total home_feed impressions in the same window.
  • The rank column can have gaps, meaning a session might have ranks 2, 4, 6 with no rank 1. Does your query still correctly capture top-5 visibility, or does it need adjustment?
  • Identify two ways the SVS metric could be gamed or produce biased results given only the columns in this schema, and propose a SQL-only fix for each.

“This took me longer than I wanted to admit.”

Interviewed for a Supply Chain Capacity Engineer role at Meta and got hit with a maze pathfinding problem. Pretty classic BFS territory but they wanted you to actually talk through the tradeoffs, not just code it.
  • Given a 2D grid maze with walls, a start position, and a target position, determine whether the target is reachable and if so, what is the minimum number of steps to get there? Movement is restricted to four directions only.

“I went straight to BFS which was the right call for shortest path, but I spent probably too long explaining it before writing any code.”

Meta PM interview with a single open-ended product design question about building an art platform. Pretty sparse on details but the question itself had some interesting surface area if you knew where to take it.
  • Design a platform where users can discover and enjoy art.

“I spent too long trying to nail down what 'enjoy' even means before picking a user segment.”

Meta PM interview with a single market expansion question. Not much to go on but it's a classic product strategy prompt that shows up a lot in these loops.
  • Which market should the company expand into next, and why?

“Classic go-to-market framing but it can spiral fast if you don't anchor on what the company actually cares about.”

TPM interview at Meta, one question about how you'd build a feature for clients to track video performance on social media ads. Pretty focused, product-meets-technical kind of question.
  • How would you design a solution that lets clients track and view the performance of their video content on social media ads?

“I went straight to metrics (views, completion rate, CTR) and started talking about a dashboard, but I think I skipped past the 'who is the client and what do they actually care about' part too fast.”

Meta software engineer coding round, two questions back to back. Nothing too wild but the tree traversal caught me more off guard than it should have.
  • Solve a sliding window problem such as finding the longest substring without repeating characters.
  • Given a binary tree, return the values of each level as a list of lists (level order traversal).

“Knew the pattern going in, which helped.”

Meta SWE technical phone screen, one coding problem with a follow-up. The main question was BST-specific and felt approachable, but the follow-up generalization to an arbitrary binary tree is where things got interesting.
  • Given the root of a Binary Search Tree, find the length of the longest strictly increasing path where consecutive nodes are connected by parent-child edges.
  • Follow-up: how would you generalize your approach if the tree were a general binary tree with no BST ordering guarantees?

“The BST property does most of the work here, you just DFS and only follow edges where the child value is larger than the parent.”

Interviewed at Meta for what seemed like an engineering leadership or recruiting-adjacent role. Not a lot of detail to go on but the core question was about hiring philosophy.
  • How do you recruit and hire good engineers?

“Broader than it sounds.”

Meta PM interview, got a metrics drop question about Facebook Events. Pretty standard product analytics case but the two-week time constraint detail made it feel more grounded than the usual vague 'metrics dropped, what do you do' prompts.
  • Success metrics for Facebook Events have been declining over the past two weeks. Walk through how you'd investigate and respond.

“I started with clarifying which metrics exactly, because 'success metrics' is doing a lot of work in that sentence.”

Meta PM interview, one question about defining success metrics for Facebook Pay. Pretty focused session, no fluff.
  • How would you define success metrics for Facebook Pay?

“I went straight to transaction volume and active users, which felt safe but probably too obvious.”
